It's so cold in Minnesota... that when lakes freeze they make oddly satisfying sounds when frozen.

If you ever wonderd why a lake makes this sound this is why: Frozen lakes will make these noises all by themselves with the right conditions, as the ice expands and contracts, sending out vibrations across the lake. Skipping rocks far across the lake can also make the same sounds

The lake at my hometown is very loud during the spring ice movement. The sounds can also be fairly low-pitched like a roar of a large fantasy animal.

the ice expands and contracts when it's heated or cooled which stresses it - as a result, giant cracks form which send sound waves which travel though the ice
