hmmm the SD card slot makes it interesting for creating a Reverb that uses Impulse responses, if you wanna add all sorts of captured Rooms to your reverb effect. Because they do consume a bit of storage space.This Daisy Pod board is awesome. I'm actually tempted to create a Subharmonic Generator with this thing. Shouldn't be too hard to do as you basically need to add a function to divide the sound into 3rds, 4ths, 8th, 22nds and so on and so forth. And not just one time but in a whole range of divisions with 4 or 12 of such divisions in a row. That creates a sound that is VERY distinctive because subharmonic tones don't exist like that in nature and works fantastic with something even simple as a Sawtooth wave oscillator. I think that should be totally possible with Pure Data.
@SoundSimulator
@SoundSimulator Жыл бұрын
I haven't seen a IR reverb project yet. I wonder if it's possible. Maybe there is a discussion on it in the forum. I have seen a cool granular project done with Pod recently! The subharmonic generator project sounds awesome! Once you make it in Pure Data, open that patch up in PlugData to check if the objects you used are supported. If it is, it'll be cool to see a standalone hardware synth version of that!!

Start with a cheap arduino kit first brother. It'll give you a great start to coding and how to copy and paste modules of open source code to your projects when you get a pod. If you can't afford one I'll send you one if you live in North America. A basic understanding of coding and hardware can be learned easily in a month. Then you move on to audio with a cheap teensy 2 and an audio break out board. You drag and drop the effects in an online interface.

Hi Takumi! Thanks for your content it is really good and explanatory but I have some doubts about Daisy pod. If I buy the pod it already comes with the seed attached to it? Or pod is just a headless circuit meant to be used with the seed? If I want to try the pod souls I buy the pod and the seed or just the pod which already comes with the seed? I couldn’t find that info on E-S online shop.

This might seem oddly specific :} At 7:09 you show the pd file and the 'r Knob1 @hv_param' is shown. How is that created with those particular parameters? Does it come 'baked into the Pod board' or is it assigned somewhere? In other words does the Pod come hardwired with r Knob1, l Knob2, etc. or do you have to program it in? This might be a basic pd question so please be patient.

The keyword that you need to look out for is JSON :) There are forum posts about it so feel free to look around there for that term. You can kinda think about it as a bridge between Pure Data and Daisy's hardware in the physical world. Or it's the file that needs to be configured in order for those [send ] objects to be mapped appropriately to Daisy's components like knobs. Same thing applies to Oopsy! And yes, each board has pre-made JSON that gets compiled with the Pure Data patch or gen~ patch. I mention it briefly in the Oopsy video over on the Electrosmith channel. And will definitely talk more about in future videos.
@bonaventura_AKA_ben
@bonaventura_AKA_ben Жыл бұрын
@@SoundSimulator Not to criticize you :) but I watched that video where you mentioned needing a 'custome json' file--you promised a video soon on creating that (ha ha!) You see, I have been paying attention. I'll look through the forum tomorrow morning for mentions of json files. I've been playing with VCV Rack for a few years so I kinda know what json files, and you need to know what json is to program your own vcv modules. I looked for a json file for the oopsy patches but couldn't locate where they are stored. Also I'm not sure how to open/edit json files. So more things to learn.

I would like to build a drum/percussion sample player that is compact. This looks like a great platform because I mainly want to use the sounds as an in ear monitoring reference track, sort of like a click track. Is program the sequence from another device. Having headphone out is already a plus. Ideally I could add a volume knob that would control level to headphones and level to main outs independently. Does anyone have experience enough to know if this is possible?
@beatnikcafe
@beatnikcafe 11 ай бұрын
Also, drum samples or drum synth tones would be fine, doesn’t have to be samples. My concern with samples is whether the playback latency will be low enough. As I’m thinking about it I actually would rather it be drum synth. The reason for independent level controls of headphone and main outs is so that if I want to send the drums sounds to the main mix it’s easy to control from the pod.

keep getting error: no DFU available (i have the POD). Tried it with Flash Program and also Flash Bootloader, same error. Funny thing is if I hit reset the daisy flashes the lights but there is no sound. Looking at the pd file looks like the pod test file is supposed to be an oscillator or two. Don't know what is going on here. Had much better look with using Max 8, where I could load and run the sample oopsy files and hear things. This pd2dsy seems a bit wonky or I am missing something. The github page looks pretty straightforward except it doesn't produce the intended results.

You mentioned it can be used as an effect for OP-1, but why can't it be used as an substitution for OP-1? More affordable one. Is it just too ambitious or technically impossible because of some processor limitations?
@SoundSimulator
@SoundSimulator 10 ай бұрын
I think it'll be more about time. At a certain point, it's better to buy something and save a lot of time. You could make make a portable synth that's like the OP-1 with the Daisy Seed, but it'll involve a lot of time to develop.
@remka2000
@remka2000 9 ай бұрын
There are a bunch of projects on YT and elsewhere to do similar-ish things (Zynthian comes to mind, even it's absolutely not an OP1 and it runs on a Raspberry Pi - which is a computer - and I am sure there are plenty others around), but yeah, time, skills - and scaling issues (buying components at retail price, injection molding, etc.). That could be a cool project though...

It's not a breadboard, for 84 Dollars you get the whole Daisy embedded music platform which runs code etc. PLUS the board with encoders and jacks etc so that one is not passive either.
