anyone criticising his mixing needs to understand how difficult proper disco is to mix. I'm a house and deep-house guy and i can beat-match pretty much perfectly, and when i try disco it's ridiculous! the records change tempo a lot! because they're not designed for mixing and also i'm just not sure the actual vinyl is as good quality. Also they don't come with a convenient 30-60 sec lead-in for mixing so you often get sound-clashes between the records. Sometimes best thing to do is just fade out and fade in! There's only mix in here which i would call "bad." big deal. Listen to the proper DJ type, disco-house and house tunes here, he mixes those pretty much perfect every time.

pro tip for mixing disco: ride the pitch adjust.
@LKeet610 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Cocks well, yeah, that's a tip for all genres really. most vinyls either coz of the physical vinyl itself or the way the track was produced, will go up and down slightly and you need to keep an eye on it. but as i said, with disco it's particularly tough and also coz of the way disco wasn't made for mixing, no convenient DJ friendly bits to mix in and out of.

+LKeet6 honestly i dont hear any bad mixing, and ive listened to this set about 10-+ times. as you said, mixing with live instruments is radically different, its funny how some of these computer DJ programs do not recognize whats going on because BPMs may vary from like 125-127 in one song...... as well there are a few Sound Stream tracks that even vary in BPM across the thing, maybe its due to the disco samples hes using...... but yes, he plays a good amount of music not made for mixing (i learned to mix with jazz fusion/funk/soul/disco/hip hop/reggae, so by the time i tried mixing house and techno it was like the easiest thing id ever done, shit is MADE to mix), but he always plays a great set and he knows how to make a "fuck up" work perfect. personally i think his compositions and DJ sets are some of the best things going RN.

so unpretentious and so dope! ...it's sad how br let soundstream play warm up, one of the most important producers in the scene and of the most underrated acts ever, almost every record he produced is an instant classic... live goes on, tease me, dance with me, wenn meine mutti wüsste, free for all remix, moving like a train remix...and so much more, I wished some acts like him would get the attention they deserved.

I was playing in Berlin on this weekend and I've got an invitation for the boilerroom night and I played with Ellen 2009 in Stuttgart and so I was like "BPitchControl, not my kind of thing but let's dance and have a great evening" and we had a great evening...you don't have to dance to someone's music but don't judge people who do this...and don't forget what Ellen did for the scene with her radio show back in the days and BPC...she's been playing techno when I was shitting in my babyunderpants!

yeah I know this fact (2 weeks ago I was dancing there behind Ellen Allien ;) and I think you're right! The development on the dancefloor is really great to see!! But you also see my point... people would also argue when for example Theo Parrish or Moodyman would play before henrik and prosumer... it's an extreme example but you know what I mean :) nevertheless: Soundstream's set is dope!!!!
@rawday11 жыл бұрын
Theo Parrish said mixing is important and you gotta learn how to do it, but DJing is more about track selection and creating and endless stream of music so the dancing doesn't stop and his set is on of best in BR-series .

Gotta say I feel these days virtually no DJs ride the pitch. Look, every Dj falls off from time to time but what I can't understand is entering the mix and already not beatmatched at all (as if ya had no headphones). This isn't really targeted at soundstream, just a general rant. Track selection is killer but a trained ear can't help but to be disturbed a bit by consistent bm errors. That being said the music comes first and this was a fun mix.
@matiasss5508 жыл бұрын
what an ignorant. if you play music that is not on the grid, little "mistakes" have to happen, it is impossible not to. If you play nowadays techno its ok, because it gets stuck for life.
