Hello Boz! Glad to make your acquaintance I’m Cosmic Brian! Glad I was introduced to your channel via Vinyl Richies entry to your groovy TAG! Oh and I subbed! I’m a big fan of ST’s especially horror and Exploito Biker ST! Some amazing ST’s here Sir! That Superman 2 cover is sick! Very cool! I also collect comics so that’s a no brainer for me! As a kid I used to have the Jungle Book ST and I loved it! I too love SciFi anything! And that Star Wars ST looks very cool! Dead Don’t Die is a great film! And the colored vinyl is beautiful! Black Mirror is an Incredible series! Twisted but incredible LoL! Almost every episode left my mind spinning! I just revisited the original West World film not long ago and it’s a killer Sci Fi jam! Great TAG! I’ll def jump in and do an entry in the next couple days! Peace ✌️👽

Good tag! You'll get ppl talking about film scores. Here's my video - - in text: just imagine an old duffer in a flat cap saying it out of focus: 1. *The Chase* N.Mint 1966 LP by *John Barry* - - never had it back in the '70s when I collected. You often hear the somber theme on Barry compilations - - the whole score sounds closer to his great score *The Knack* the year before, featuring nifty organ & breezy jazz. 2. *Forbidden Planet* 1976 pressing of original 1956 score. N.Mint, 29 quid. Arrives tomorrow! 3. *Planet of the Apes* gatefold LP 1968 by *Jerry Goldsmith* . Long ago I was fool enough to sell most of my soundtracks but hung onto the first score that made me aware of the power of a great score, so good I bought it twice back in the day, same pressing. 4. Fave genre. *Film noir* , unfortunate genre to favor for vinyl ppl - - because 1940s was noir's golden age, & the printed notation is often lost in classic Hollywood scores. So what we settle for is approximate orchestrations on modern pressings. Bootleg original motion picture soundtracks from noir's golden age are poor quality. There was a 1970s trend of surviving composers stepping up to conduct their early works with the likes of UK's National Phil, so you could find '70s LPs of early works from the likes of Miklos Rozsa & Bernard Herrmann, close to the original orchestration on good pressings. I had them - - & sold them all! like a foool! *Modern noir* category starts with *John Barry's Body Heat* in 1981. Do CDs count? because the original LP was denounced by Barry himself as incomplete & poor sounding without his cooperation - - but the full score issued about 10 years ago I only have on CD. If it has to be vinyl: *Jerry Goldsmith's Chinatown* from 1974 might count as noir, though mostly filmed in daylight. 5. Score. Not sure we're on the same page, but in my day an LP "motion picture score" was to be avoided unless zero alternative, like those '70s re-orchestrations. *Leonard Bernstein, On the Waterfront* - - because Lenny himself conducted & put together the orchestra so it's near as dammit to the soundtrack, though resolved into a suite...& what a powerful score that was. Hollywood lost a giant when he decided to focus on classical conducting: we can only imagine the spectacular scores he would have made right through the '50s-80s. 6. Oldest Pressing. Might be *Alfred Newman, The Egyptian* 1954. Bernard Herrmann had a hand in it too. It survives from my original collection only because no one wanted to buy it back then. 7. Cool vinyl color. *Hammer Horror Classic Themes 1958-74* . Glowing green vinyl - - just like the old Aurora models. 8. 7" soundtrack-related vinyl. *James Bond Theme* 1962, John Barry's arrangement & an example of where the arrangement so completely changes the tune that the arranger deserves co-composing credit & 50% royalties. *John Barry Vs Monty Norman* faced off in court twice over this one, & Barry lost both times. Unfair. 9. Fave soundtrack artwork. Is it against the rules to nominate same LP twice? if not, the album art on *Forbidden Planet* cover is glorious. If not, then the art nouveau classic cover, *Chinatown* - - same as original film poster which I also have. Wait, I already nominated that one, too. Jeez this is getting tough. OK the Wild West painting on the album cover of *Jerry Goldsmith's Stagecoach* , 1966. 10. Original AND reissue. Before I was fo0o0o0o0ol enough to sell my collection decades ago I could've showed 2 *Sebastians* by *Jerry Goldsmith* , 1968, but now all I have is a repressing. I could've shown 2 *The Knacks* by *John Barry* , 1965, but now only a repressing. I may have to pass on this one. These Qs are making me realise what I don;t have anymore. This is PAINful now. Is that my old *Westworld* album - - did you buy it overseas?? 11. 1990s soundtrack. Back when I was collecting there was no such thing as the 1990s. And now I'm buying again, I'm purely nostalgic. Film scoring is a lost art & all the maestros are dead or retired. I could get close with *Living Daylights by John Barry* , 1989 - - - ohhh so close! but no cigar. 12. Bargain Bin. Online, but N.Mint copy of *Jerry Goldsmith's The Chairman* from 1969, 10 quid inc.postage this year. I never had this LP even back in the day. You can hear shades of his orchestrations for *Planet of the Apes* & *Sand Pebbles* in this score - - something that all film composers have: phases of a particular sound that carries through several films before the composer moves on. Alfred Hitchcock was so exasperated with Bernard Herrmann by 1966 that this was one pf 2 reasons for firing him. 13. Soundtrack-related artifact. Book: *John Barry A Sixties Theme* by *Eddi Fiegel* . There are several John Barry books, & this is one of the top 3, I'd say. As I said to Rachel just this morning, it's astounding to discover the transformation of John Barry, leading a 7-piece orchestra round the working men's clubs of northern England & within 5 years scoring the seminal films of the '60s. What a whizzbang era full of possibilities & chancers the Sixties was.

Nice. Yes, you can use the same album for more than one answer. I do have other soundtracks that were actually pressed and released in the 1990s such as Wayne's World, The Nutty Professor and The Mask to name a few. So, they are around but they are much less common. I have a 2012 reissue of Forbidden Planet on green vinyl. Great movie! Thanx for playing along!

Hey, this was my first watch from your channel; good. Blazing Saddles is also my fav comedy but in the video I think you showed a 45th anniversary edition. On Discogs I only see a 40th anniversary edition (2015). Am I mistaken, or where did you order your 45th from?

It's the 40th Anniversary edition. Says right on the cover. Issued in 2015. I had to order this from a store in the UK through Discogs. They have two copies for sale at the moment.

I hate Bkack Mirror. Dull derivative predictable science fiction made by people who dont understand science fiction or have an appreciation of the genre for people who claim they don't like science fiction. Unrelatable characters mostly of what we call a cosmopolitan nature here in the UK. I hate that it's adolescent edgy plot contrivances (the prime minister fucking a pig on live TV or it turrning out the protagonist was a paedophile for example). I hate it's far left show runner and head writer Charlie Brooker. It's just awful. Other than that I enjoyed the video. Very interesting choices.
