After 2004 his form started to decline..and in terms of stats..we should see that He used to bat at no 6..so that's not at all bad..there must be very few players with better stats than him in that position

Sourav did very well in the first 6 years and the last 2 years of his Test career, but in the middle 4 years, he took his form lightly, due to which his test career does not look very impressive.

Still. He has a good enough test record. But, here he averaged 47 before this innings. Must have had a hard form slump in tests, because despite playing epic in his final 2-3 years in tests he ended up with only 42 average.
