Sounds like you are trying to have a US experience in South Africa. Enjoy South Africa and its beauty, relax and enjoy the convenience of family over (inconvenience of shopping during late hours) everyone has a family even workers and cashiers. Its a tradeoff of priorities - Work Life Family - Balance. The Convenience Store / Shop at the Filling Stations are for those quick snacks, everything outside of that if you think about it you need to prepare. As for online shopping, its gaining traction and trust factor but has to content with outdoor family experience. PS. Think Makro is partly/if not wholly Walmart owned.

The reason is also spatial residential planning. Most workers live far from their places of work and use public transport which doesn't run 24hrs. So they have to leave work whilst public transport is still available.

We need more people like you who can help change how the systems works. Sometimes giving a bit of criticism can help people to do things differently. We as South Africans sometimes complain but it comes across as a personal attack instead of someone taking it as constructive criticism to help improve how things are done. We also get impatient and frustrated you just need to address the situation at times. So that you can be heard. Or just move to someone who can give better services. Never settle for less.

Some of the things we definitely need to change. Like lack of urgency. Some of the things we’re not trying to change. Workers and cashiers have family too. You will adjust and plan your shopping accordingly. Give it time sis, your spirit is still adjusting. Soon you won’t even want to be shopping late night and wonder why you ever needed to.

Look the filtering part you just mentioned happens on websites or apps that i think are not heavily invested on reason being would be makro for example primary focus or revenue is brick and motar trading and not necessarily online whereas takelot which is e commerce is online based and should have a more convenient way for its customers to shop so its not that we don't notice that it companies that do not invest that much on e commerce

There's too much GMO on American food compared to South African and Italy. You should eat more organic food instead, just my 2 cent on that. I grew up in the 80s and driving was a bliss because everyone adhered to the rules you overtake and get back to the left lane the fast lane was always free now you find a person driving at 40kmphon the right lane.

You Nailed it girl!!! It shows that western world is not similar to our world. You rush you gonna have a burn out. Our times at work is regulated by work man compensation. A person in S.A. is not allowed to work more than 9hours a day, unless your work in a hospital and working extra hours means your employer must pay you overtime money. Workers in S.A. were exploited too much during apartheid so our democratic goverment is very cautious about that. Anyway enjoy your stay in South Africa and know that South Africans love you.

You are right, I always negotiate for a discount if I'm purchasing goods worth a bit more money compared to other customers, and I always get it, whether it's for furniture or cleaning materials at my favourite West Pack Lifestyle store in my area.

On shops closing earlier, largely Africa doesn't have night life and our Malls are not in the big cities where you have overcrowding and too much crime at night. the culture here so far is that night time and Sundays are family time and to get some rest, perhaps the working from home might change that in the future where people have some time at night and shops have numbers then the reason to open at night, economically it makes sense to run 24/7 when it allows but these days we are told of Climate Change perhaps that the reason Africa reset and minimise pollution at night.

We love how we are and expect the people who come here to get with the program or very nicely go back to where things are the way they prefer. How do the Americans say "love it or leave it".
