@@dsouza286 Well…At its most basic level SA being a “developing nation” has much work to do in improving its energy grid, especially given the level of growth taking place there and the growing demands. The impact of which as we all are aware is the load shedding. During our visit there last year we were not impacted (likely due to where we stayed). At any rate, there are things that can be done to reduce the pain as the nation continues to work hopefully to improve there. Coincidentally working for one of the largest energy companies here in the U.S. myself, I well understand this will be a long term endeavor for SA. They have to start somewhere though, 🤷🏾‍♂️ and that I believe is rooted in the investment into the nation which hopefully the government will be wise in working with business to effect those improvements. We actually bought into a community that employs some of the technology to mitigate the load shedding aspect (things like generators, inverters, solar). So with that, we are not deterred in our interest and efforts. It has to be a holistic effort in my opinion.

You don’t have to dream. You can make it happen! While it might not be a place like this, you can OWN a new property in SA for as little as $30-$40k (1 BR/1BA flat in secure upmarket community with amenities)

If hurricane comes , there will be nothing left. Our banks in S.A. don't finance houses build by wood. Here we need brick and mortar. That huge penthouse with jacuzzi outside is crazy 😃, that protective glass needs to raised up to the level that prevents someone from sliping over and falls from that jacuzzi due to many scenarios that might arise from using that amenity as it is a section of the penthouse that will be utilised more than others, thats all from me 😃 but otherwise superb 👌 penthouse. 🇿🇦

No, the term ‘lock up and go’ is commonly used in SA. It indicates a property where you can just lock the door and go (on overseas vacation, on a business trip, a weekend away, road trip, etc). That means it is generally a somewhat smaller property (as opposed to a large single dwelling house on a sprawling lot), eg. Townhouses, apartments, cluster housing, gated estates, etc, which are generally located within a secure complex (I.e. gated, with security and access-controlled) hence giving you peace of mind that you can literally just lock the door and leave it for any period of time without fear of something happening like a burglary). With regard to Airbnb, that is not allowed in all residential complexes, as such short-term lets can lead to a breach of security of the complex, and things like noisy short-term tenants disturbing other residents. If you are specifically looking for an Airbnb property, then I suggest you specify that to the realtor so as not to waste time viewing properties where the rules do not allow this.
