The 1997 Wills Golden Jubilee Tournament, also known as the Wills Quadrangular Tournament, was a historic quadrangular one-day cricket competition held in November to commemorate Pakistan's 50th anniversary of independence. Hosted at Lahore's iconic Gaddafi Stadium, the tournament featured powerhouse teams from Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies, and Pakistan.
In a thrilling final showdown, South Africa clinched victory by defeating Sri Lanka, claiming their first tournament win in the Indian subcontinent after seven attempts. The event was not only a celebration of cricket but also a tribute to Pakistan's milestone anniversary of independence.
The final match was a spectacle in itself, as the Pakistan Cricket Board honored all living Test cricket captains of Pakistan with a grand parade in horse-drawn carriages, presenting them with gold medals. Notably absent was Imran Khan, who couldn't attend due to political commitments.
Despite challenges posed by nighttime heavy dew and insects affecting the field conditions, the tournament showcased intense competition. The white cricket ball frequently became soggy and discolored, favoring teams batting second.

(At least Sangakkara's innings highlights) 2)The round robin league match between SL and IND from Asia Cup 1997 where Ranatunga made a grand heroic innings of 131* almost carrying the bat through the innings to recover Srilanka from two vital collapses (9/2 then 125/4) at the top order to chase down a target of 227.
