The Western Cape isn't perfect, but we get a different flavor of shit than the rest of South Africa. We pay extra to be here because the shit we’re fed is a big step up from what others have to swallow. South Africa’s like a frog in a pot, the heat turned up slowly and steadily since my earliest memories. Now we suffer the consequences of decisions made 20 or 30 years ago. The world’s at a turning point and, sorry to say, we’re cooked frogs. We underestimated the fallout. History repeats this cycle over and over: weak men make hard times, hard times make strong men, strong men make good times, and good times make weak men. It’s the same story everywhere, just sometimes more dramatic. South Africa is one of those places. At the end of the day, the only universal truth is that we’re all human. There are too many cultures here, and you can’t keep everyone happy. Understanding social constructs, morals, and so on is mostly tied to one’s culture, and mixing them all together is a recipe for disaster, especially if those traditions and morals don’t make any logical sense. The belief is that when forced together, different cultural values often clash, creating friction and instability. Historical conquests and forced integration have left resentment and tension, as vastly different moral and social frameworks struggle to coexist. Frankly, everyone should have just stuck to their own countries and left others alone. Invading and conquering is half the trouble. Culture should remain separate, and if your culture doesn’t fit with the rest of the world, then each to their own. I’m talking about culture, not race, two very different things. Unless your moral construct is religion, then religion isn't something that should be forced, and excluding will also ultimately create friction.

I can’t say there’s any one culture that stands out like a brilliant star in a dark abyss. Every culture has its own blend of good and bad, and what’s considered right or wrong depends entirely on who you ask. If I look at God, the one aspect that truly resonates is unconditional love. But in the world as it is now, would unconditional love truly prevail on Earth? Or would the darkness eventually swallow everything, leaving us only with the realm of the spirit?

@Stormer-Europa Cape Town brings to mind the concept of the Overton Window, a political theory tool that defines the range of ideas, policies, and viewpoints considered acceptable in public discourse at any given time. By deliberately introducing more extreme ideas, it becomes easier to make what once seemed radical appear moderate and thus gain public acceptance. This tactic is employed worldwide in various forms, and South Africa is one example. Consider how Donald Trump rose to the presidency. Some argue there is no genuine left or right, as both sides may ultimately serve the same overarching interests. Humanity often dismisses truth, leaving us with few real choices. The illusion of freedom persists, but authentic freedom requires more than simply being free; it demands an environment where options are not carefully shaped and controlled through manipulation.
@kylehorak9957
@kylehorak9957 7 күн бұрын
@Stormer-Europa An extreme idea isn’t always inherently good or bad; sometimes it is simply what the situation demands. However, an honest individual will not manipulate you by making you swallow something foul and then claiming you have “freedom” to choose a slightly less foul option, especially when that's the only option presented. In other words, true honesty is not about shifting your perception to make something unacceptable seem acceptable; it is about openly acknowledging what is being offered and allowing you to make a genuine, informed choice, even if that choice lies outside the options you are presented with. It’s simple. The art of mastering chess will even help you understand this. “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.”

The problems our country is facing are not isolated to South Africa, this is a world wide phenomenon, yes the ANC have done a fantastic job and run our country into the ground, my biggest hope for South Africans is for all of us to wake up and take our own future into our hands, stop waiting for Government and other countries to solve our problems, they are the reason the world is in the state it's in ... There's more to this bud than Meets the eye, reality is stranger than fiction...

Thank you for sharing your views, Andrew. My knowledge of South Africa has been shaken up since living in a neighbourhood that has a broad spectrum of residents, ranging from very poor to reasonably wealthy. A dominating factor that comes to light is 'dignity and trust'. One thing for sure is that Apartheid stripped the majority of South Africans of their dignity to such an extent that it is still a privilege (even in a post Apartheid society) to have a white skin. Further, this whiteness has become the psychological and largely unconscious motivation that drives economic emancipation. Problem is that if self dignity is not dealt with, then any economic freedom will lack such. The lack of dignity plays out predominantly as greed. When you feel lacking and desperate for fulfilment (economically) and your sense of dignity has become attributed to material possessions and assets, then naturally greed becomes a normalised action. Greed has become the infectious disease of South African society(across the board all colours included). Greed erodes trust. On another hand, security, personal security and state security have become threatened by unchecked greed, which is ultimately rooted in lack of dignity. A vicious circle is dominating the arena. Look at the 'beautiful' countryside around you, Andrew. If we are to tackle our current problems in South Africa today, then we have to identify the root cause of our problem and that does not lie in the growing aftermath of political and/or social disintegration. The outcome is not the problem. The problem is the unchecked greed that has been allowed to become centre stage. Everyone in the country is being subjected to grabbing and then holding on to dear life their possessions, an action that initiates great wealth and poverty alike. The economically privileged communities gate themselves up with sophisticated security systems and ignore the poverty stricken communities who are being even more manipulated and exploited because of their economical situation. The former thinking they are clever and the poor are stupid when in fact both lack dignity...basic human dignity and trust of each other. A good measure for mistrust of anyone because they 'look' poorer than you, is lack of self dignity. That is worth considering. I would add (as an edit) that the problem we face in South Africa today is largely due to the unchecked greed of wealthy citizens and the way that they manage their assets and security because the current trajectory is one of polarisation. When you gate yourself up in a safe zone b because you can afford to do so, then you are putting a signal out to the world that you are fearful and that you do not want to do anything about your fear. Deal with your fear, babies. Learn fear management, then teach you children. It starts at home. Dignity and trust.

If you look around when traveling to work or to the shops, look closer. People have started spending money again. House renos, new cars, strip malls are reopening where previously it was closed. I think maybe things are looking up, but its still going to take time to trickle down to the people at the bottom. Maybe. Its that or worse case, people are buying now because they know massive inflation is on the way. 😂
