Hey man, I'm an Aggie (2002 whoop!) and I really enjoy the OSU band. The Fighting Texas Aggie band pushes the limits as a military style band but y'all do great stuff with the drum corp style. When they did the 'surprised Pikachu' formation I was laughing my ass off for several minutes.

I think we’re all in agreement that the two bands, OSU and A&M, are the masters of what they do, and the kids performing have incredible talent and dedication (even if SOMETIMES we wish we were anywhere else but practice or in those outfits)! Keep the shows coming. They are an absolute delight to watch!

I'm an American living at my 35th address in places all over the world. By God's grace, about 25 of those years were in the Great State of Texas. Don't misunderstand me, I greatly enjoyed everywhere I've lived, but there's something special about Texas. I graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, my son graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, my second son-in-law's brother graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, my father earned his Bachelors Degree at South Dakota State University, his Masters at the University of Wyoming and his Doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin, my older brother graduated from the University of New Mexico, my younger brother from Wright State University in Ohio, and my sister from Colorado State University. My youngest daughter and her husband are graduates of the University of Texas San Antonio, my father-in-law earned his Bachelors Degree from North Dakota State University and Masters from Purdue University. My first and second sons-in-law are graduates of Liberty University. My point is, I've been exposed to a wide variety of higher institutions and traditions. My two eldest daughters graduated from Texas A&M University at College Station. I've not seen any school with traditions and culture like Texas A&M, and it simply cannot be explained. I've traveled with my daughters to places around the world, and in virtually every place we stopped a fellow Aggie will approach my daughters because they'll recognize the Class ring. To try to give you a glimpse, I pass on these few examples. Texas A&M is the "Home of the 12th Man," and all students stand up during the entire game to signify their readiness to be called in to play if needed. On campus, all Aggies are expected to greet others by saying "Howdy," if fact, you'll see signs in dorm room windows that say "Say Howdy. At the beginning of the academic year when the school clubs are recruiting members, you'll never find a group called "Aggies Against [anything]," because Aggies are never against anything, Aggies are always FOR something. And in athletics, Aggies never lose--they may run out of time, or they may be outscored, but AGGIES NEVER LOSE. This is but a very shallow glimpse into the rich culture of Texas A&M University. It is a culture of positivity and friendliness like I've not experienced anywhere else--there's not a close second.

During World War Two, more officers came from Texas A&M than all the other military academies combined. My father went to A&M, did a little marching, then signed up with a Navy Dental School program when he received his invitation in WW2. And you know what they call an ex Aggie? Boss.

I’ve lived in College Station for the past 45 years. Not an Aggie but have 3 in the family. I’ve had the privilege of watching the band for years. They never stop moving during their field show, and as the Aggies like to say, they’ve never lost a halftime! Gig Em!!!!!!

When they would play Baylor University, they would literally take over a Main Street, in Waco, & March all the way down. They were DOING this in the OPPONENTS HOME CITY!! It was epic. Unfortunately they changed Conferences, & they don’t play each other. They may have been the Opponents, but we in Waco looked forward to it all year long!! 😊

I’m an Aggie and yeah, it takes an insane amount of drilling, memorization, and practice. The halftime performance drill changes every week and gets progressively more and more complex as the Freshman get more experienced. It’s hours of rehearsal every day in addition to the 24/7 Corps of Cadets militaristic life and your studies. It finally culminates in the most highly anticipated and most complex drill for the final home football game, the famous 4-Way Cross-Through. It will blow your mind. I highly recommend you check out some of those videos as well as a few I uploaded to my KZbin channel from the years I was there. There’s nothing like it.

The Aggie Band, is made up of members of the Corps of Cadets and is the largest collegiate military marching band in the nation, with 73K enrolled, which fits with Texas A&M being the largest public university in the nation. The main campus, known as “Aggieland,” is in College Station, about 1-1/2 hr north of Houston. You stated that the band must practice for months. They do, but they produce an entirely different routine every week, plus the band members have their obligations of classes and study time. The upper class members are the traveling marching band for Texas A&M. Watching an Aggie halftime show, particularly at a home game is an experience. Did you notice how the crowd is not just watching the show but verbally participating - “ooo-ing,” clapping, cheering, and even singing when the Aggie Fight Song is played at the start and last of the performance. No one wants to leave their seat during an Aggie Band halftime show. If you need to get a drink or use the bathroom, you do it before or after halftime.

Another thing…the directors write and choreograph the show. As you stated, a new one each week. The Aggie Band practices for a couple hours in the morning, Monday through Friday, and prior to game performances. Not very much, considering that not only are they learning the marching steps, but also the new music!! They truly are incredible…both as a band, and as people. 🎺🥁🎷🏈

Lifelong resident in Bryan/College Station which is home of Texas A&M University and no matter how many times I see them it gives me chills. The crowd doesn’t even go to restroom or concession until after the band is done playing.

Ah yea, the "impossible"4 way cross because the computer says 2 people cant be in the same place at the same time😂😂 I marched in a military band for 4 years, and I have zoomed in and slowed it down and still dont get how they dont just crater and crash. Its amazing!! Much respect, and as a Corps Mom of a past corps member, the lack of sleep without being in the band was unreal. True dedication beyind belief.

Nice to hear someone reacting who has some first hand experience! The Aggies are truly spectacular, I’ve never seen anything like the way they can collapse their rows and squares with such precision! I love watching the trombones turn, the slide control when whipping around those corners lmao 😅 and I’m always impressed by how their choreographers use the Sousaphones for visual impact! Their center field cross is the best though, too bad it wasn’t in this one but maybe youll catch it in another reaction 🎉

Thank you for the expert Commentary. Of course I knew it was difficult but just How difficult, coming from a former marcher, really lends more gravitas to it. I Read a comment made on the Ohio state marching band that what helps keep them in step is they know where they need to be or to turn on a specific note. 1st time on your channel and I subscribe.

Seen them in person a few times. Always a awesome show! You're seeing senior class. So they practiced together for 3 years, and you're watching the 4th year as a group that takes the field in front of 100,000 people.

Sorry, this is not true. The ones in the boots are seniors, everyone not in boots are not seniors. This was the first performance of the year, the simplest one they do each year. The fish have been with the band for about a month at this time, in that time they have to get up to speed on Corps life as well as learn the band's routine for the performance. The band is about 400 cadets, with over a quarter of them freshman, so a good 100 folks in that video was their first time performing live on Kyle Field in front of 104,000 (give take) in their lives. If the performance is graded as "perfect" the fish get their brass (or at least use to, may have changed like everything does.)

I like it when they play the song The Noble Men of Kyle. One thing no one may have told you is that the high schools will play fight songs etc. of a university. A high school may have the same mascot, colors, and songs that a university has. One of the high schools we played against wore maroon and white like Texas A&M but played Texas Longhorns songs. One was the red and blue Mustangs which played SMU songs. There used to be a great college sports conference called the Southwest Conference.

From their tubas, looks like they were in the Tournament or Roses parade, but this video appears to be in Japan. Funny that their lead sign was in English reading "KYOTO TACHIBANA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL BAND" while they were parading down a Japanese street. Very entertaining and kudos to them for all the hard work and effort they put into their performance, especially, again, for a high school band - wow!!! TAMU FTAB is still the best marching band in the world, you'll never change my mind :) Curt C., TAMU Class of '92.

They haven’t been practicing for months, it’s years. Most if not all college/university marching band members did so for at least one semester during the four years in the school prior (high school). Once you learn how to read a drill sheet and coordinate chart your first summer in high school, it’s second nature to learn shows, and practices are of course mandatory. The shows get more complex, and music must be memorized as well. I’ve done both styles, and IMHO the Aggie Band shows are the harder of the two kinds! …and that’s just your “traditional” marching bands- the ones most YTers (I watch) react to. There’s a whole other genre mostly taken on by historically black schools; they actually dance! Talent all around!

Strangely, this particular show was an uncharacteristically sloppy performance. The far side of the formation was severely out of alignment on a handful of occasions during the first half of the show. It didn't destroy the performance or anything, but I'm sure that group got chewed out big time during practice the following week. But in a way, it's a testament to how much we have come to expect pure perfection from this group that a few small glitches will stand out like a sore thumb.
