Ohhhh BIGBANG! They were my introduction to K-pop in 2009 when I was 15 haha I prefer their earlier stuff (Lies, Haru Haru and Last Farewell) but their music is so catchy! They were the only K-pop group invested time into beyond casual listening. After their hiatus I kinda moved on and ended up becoming an ARMY, but they’ll always have a place in my heart, especially G-Dragon and Daesung. I was never a VIP, but BIGBANG was probably the first K-pop act to become known in the west and are considered one of the harbingers of K-pop. BIGBANG, BTS, PSY, SNSD, Súper Junior, Epik High and Seo Taiji are considered idol royalty by now! Yeah, BB were considered very eclectic and out-there back in the early 2010’s and before that, since they’re a 2nd gen. band and were often side by side with Super Junior and other more “typical” boy bands (immaculate, poised, etc) and they were considered the bad boys of idol culture back in the day. They stood out since they also had roots in hip-hop and R&B before moving to electro-pop. Their sound was very iconic in the earlier years, which is why I like their earlier works so much. Their solo work is also really good. Didn’t think you’d find me here huh? Haha I don’t really stan anyone other than BTS, but I do enjoy other groups and BB were big for me for a long time, so I wanted to show you my support!

GD introduced the concept of Lightsticks , the lightstick you saw was the first ever light stick in Kpop and was designed by GD himself. Kpop fans now are literally OWNING their idols, well, many of them :(( bring back this era pls T_T when kpop groups are free to interact, flirt, or have fun. and yeah, there’s a phrase like “NO YG, NO PARTY” in award shows, because no yg artists, no fun. This was BIGBANG's 2012 era. This was their unexpected return after going through bad times. Their haters literally exploited their controversy to hopefully disband them for good. And even today, the hateful next-gen fandoms are using that to hopefully do the same. Most idols out here would have not survived the hate this group has gone through and still is going through til today. They changed a lot before that year. Learned some great lessons and initiated change. Even when their ways sometimes go against our traditional beliefs. To some of us, BIGBANG is a necessary rebel. The antagonist WE seriously NEED. Big Bang the group broke the mold after they debut in 2006. They were the hottest Kpop band from 2006 to 2016. They have been away since 2018 and are having a comeback this year. Everyone says G Dragon looks like Mino and other current Kpop artists - but they have this wrong. G dragon is the original. They are called artist of artist, lots of artists that you see today have been inspired by them like BTS, Blackpink, Treasure etc. Some few things that I know BB started 1_ Lightstick was invented by GD and now every group/idol has their own 2_ Korean finger heart, it's a bit controversial as alot of ppl claim that it was an actress who created it in 2010 but there's a pic of GD making finger heart when he was really young proving that he created it way before 3_ before BB Kpop idols were not allowed to take part in writing and production of songs but again GD and BB stepped up and started to write and produce their own songs and when I say songs I mean huge hit songs 4_ first underground rapper, T.O.P was the first underground rapper to debut as an idol 5_changing hair colour, yes idols before only coloured their hair black and brown, it was GD who started this tren and tried every colour that exists 😅 and now everyone does that 6_ concept of mini album was introduced to Kpop and world by bigbang 7_airport fashion, idols didn't used to take airport fashion seriously and would wear casual cloths but then GD started this airport fashion trend that literally every artist in Kpop follows. He released back to back to back hit songs since then. Imagine being recognize by all this BIG NAMES (ceo's and rappers including the general public) at such young age. Bigbang is very different from other groups, if many other groups attach importance to their visuals differently, they will only show the talent they have but that doesn't mean other groups don't have it but most of today's agencies really care about it visuals rather than talent... just look at how they are on stage very different, not much movement but the emotion and energy on stage is very strong.. I always prefer watching their live performances than their MVs, I think most VIPs (name of the fandom) do. By the way, there is one song that came out of Big Bang that is an absolute kpop staple and classic - it's called Eyes, Nose, Lips. It's a solo sung by their vocalist Taeyang. Pretty much every single kpop fan knows how to lipsync that song, even if they're not korean or a big fan of Big Bang haha. Suddenly everyone is fluent in Korean when that song comes on 😆 It's a super popular song. Taeyang did that song to try and win back his girlfriend who had broken up with him at the time....and now they're married with a kid, so it really worked hahaha. Eyes, Nose, Lips also became like a YG cover project, many other YG artists did their own rendition of that song. Including Tablo (rapper from Epik High), he did a rap rendition of the song in English...his rap version is a work of art imo, and very different from Taeyang's original version. Tablo's version is remixed by DJ Tukutz who is the 3rd member of Epik High (Epik High consists of 2 rappers and 1 DJ). Big Bang does all genres, Rap, RnB, Pop, Rock, Ballads, Trot, you name it their style comes from everything from th lyrics, to the catchy melodies, to the visuals, from clothes to MV Videos to everything. They have a full bodied type of songs, no matter the style. Each member is good in more than 1 aspect and they all learned what suits them best. They each have their own individual style thats dope and their charcteristics are their own. But together they blend like brothers and play off each others best parts.

You should definitely react to more of their songs: ‘Bang Bang Bang’, ‘Bad Boy’, ‘Loser’, ‘Good Boy’, ‘Fxxk it’ are all classics and definitely worth a listen!! Also you must watch the MAMA 2015 performance! It was legendary and their stage prescience is out of the world! Notably all five members have their own vocal colours and performance styles, they are kings on their own as their solo works were massively successful too!. For solo work, you can start with Taeyang’s ‘Ringa Linga’ (Lisa was in the MV for a bit, see if u can spot her haha) and ‘Eyes Nose Lips’, and Gdragon’s ‘Crooked’. ^^

Lee Hyori came from the first generation group, Fin.K.L. She's known as the Nation's Fairy. Her tan skin tone made her look so sexy in the eyes of the Korean public. She became very close to the group when she and Daesung of BIGBANG joined the variety show Family Outing in 2008. She's also a huge fan of BIGBANG. They also got to collab for a stage performance back in 2008. You won't see her much anymore since she moved to Jeju Island with her husband. They have a neat bed & breakfast there. She's done some small projects over the years, but in 2020, she went back to Seoul and joined a group project called SSAK3 and Refund Sisters.
