South Africans urged to switch to smart ID cards

South Africans who are still using the green identity document are being urged to switch to smart IDs to avoid falling victim to identity theft.

Will if u not born in South Africa u can't get one so there are many people that are not born in South Africa but are citizens

Our IDs have been compromised, so SAns please upgrade to the card as soon as possible. I have just received mine.

When you switch to your new ID card, and when you fetch it, please do not hand your ID book over to them when requested to do so, they'll tell you to hand in your book so they can confiscate it,... please please people do not hand it over, tell them you left it at home or call the supervisor to let her know you do not have it with you,... it is not necessary to hand it in, i was told when i fetched mine a few years ago, thats the first red flag that went up in my mind,... FRAUD.... they could posssibly remove your photo but use your ID number fraudulantly for re-sale to foreigners... be awre and vigilant... no one at home affairs can be trusted, sorry but we heard far too many stories of fraud from Home Affairs....

Most forged, not defrauded. You can't defraud a document. I'm not even English!

All banks assost with smart id cards. U do not have 2 go 2 any place u deem dangerous. Voorspoed.
