Not true. Samson says he isn't honest with himself. He lied for years in therapy and when he started being truthful, he gots scared and stopped. He's more blunt than honest, and he can do so because he's alexithymic.

Dan completely over estimates the amount of hate and dislike there is for David Samson because his bubble is all Miami. This is a national show and I, like most people outside of Miami, love Samson. There is more hate inside that studio and shipping container for him than there is outside of Florida. Sooooooo happy he is on the Pirate ship. Love the segments with him and Skipper, still miss Witty in the middle of that. Long live Samson the Grump!!!!

I don't "like" Samson but he has a perspective that is so unique in sports media that I find him to be appointment listening. But if he had and said and done the things he did in Miami to a team I cheer for, I'd probably feel the same way Billy and Chris do.

The last 5 minutes of this is pretty damn powerful. The entire episode is a great example of how two loving friends can work through disappointment, hurt, etc WITHOUT anger, yelling and hate. Dan simply saying "I owe you an apology.." seems like such a simple thing and yet... So many people are incapable of saying those words. Thanks Dan and David. Thank you for this conversation. The previous episodes are important for Men to truly discuss vulnerability. But this episode is important for learning how to communicate, even if the conversation is unpleasant. But still leave knowing you absolutely love them.

I can't stand how Dan always introduces Samson this way. It's a slap in the face to the audience and Samson. Yes, we get it Dan. Samson is controversial in South Florida. This is a national show. I can make up my own mind whether I like Samson or not. He can sometimes rub me the wrong way. But, for the most part I think he's great for the show. It doesn't need to be repeated OVER and OVER again. Most of the audience isn't as stupid as you think we are. We don't need it explained it to us every week when Samson is on. We can figure this out on our own.

Man that was the best session yet! brought a few tears to my eyes. Its rare in todays world that you can be so honest with someone whose so close and not be in fear of offending them or hurting their feelings. That's great when you can be so open and still move forward together! KEEP IT UP DAN! And Samson is an awesome addition.

Hoping David will see this but probably not- either way I just wanted to say that this was the most relatable thing I've ever heard and it's really nice to know I'm not alone in the things I've been feeling most of my life. Short, bullied, unsure of my emotions and feelings, drawing meaning from songs and movies and feeling like most people just don't understand me. I know a lot of people probably feel this way but simply don't share it, so thank you David for your rare honesty.

Dan is an intelligent and caring man, yet he doesn’t always read the room. There is a difference between not letting emotions dictate your decisions and not having emotions. David is clearly an emotional person, yet his “nothing personal” way of dealing with things has Dan fooled into thinking his friend is a robot.

I have re-watched this multiple times today, brought this episode up in my therapy session today; I resonate with so much of how David feels, and expresses his feelings in a way that is earnest and forthcoming. His upbringing, his feelings of being alone (which i know completely) not having any feelings, and feeling as if no one accepts him despite his wanting to show he's grounded and not the picture that he's portrayed as. Multiple times I held back a tear because I've felt EXACTLY how David feels or has felt. Thank you David, Thank you Dan. You have helped me in more ways than you can know. 🙏

What David “did” to Miami is exactly the same thing so many have done in sports and otherwise. It was his job. He did it well. Samson is a great hire and when he said to Dan, “It did not help your cause what went on here the last couple weeks.” That’s the truth that Dan needed to hear. I will say that those first couple of weeks when Dan was on vacation and David was helping out in his absence it was very difficult to listen to at times. I understand that several people in the show do not like him, but it was brutal to listen to because they were validating each other’s dislike, and the way they were treating him. And the whole time he wasn’t even being anti-Miami he was trying to keep the Miami portion to the local hour and trying to as he said, expand the audience beyond Miami. When Dan came back on the show, he also piggybacked on the way of saying that David was ruining the show in his absence, and I found it to be exactly the opposite.

One of the best South Beach sessions! Exceptionally powerful! People don’t understand that David is an incredible human being. As president of the Marlins, he took the time to call any employee in the organization to wish them a Happy Birthday and take a few minutes to talk. What President of any organization does that? Well, David did! I worked with the Marlins for 4 years and it was very kind and thoughtful to receive that call every year. I love his podcast and what he brings to Meadowlark. I hope more people can appreciate what he brings to the table because it is worth it. I hope people can simply move on with the ‘hate’. There’s nothing to ‘hate’ about David Samson.

@@georgeparker8198 I guess what Im saying is I don't agree with his apparent opinion that he can be both the co founder and abdicate himself from responsibility of management. Just cause you dont want to do it, doesnt mean you arent accountable. Having a David is a great start to remove yourself from the duties but as management you are responsible to facilitate growth and address business challenges. Part of that (a big part) is managing expectations and influencing perceptions. If Dans goal was to make sure people see David as 'trouble' then mission accomplished... but it hasnt made the Lark run better or more profitably Just business. Nothing personal ;)

@Chris Pitts I think you can if you empower someone like David. On air persona is not the same as your professional title. The shipping container fat shaming Dan or sending him to the penalty box doesn't mean Dan isn't the boss so quote on quote bullying Samson on air doesn't take away from whatever his corporate role is. If he's empowered to do whatever he's empowered to do then Dan can keep his hands clean to a certain extent. Just my opinion. We don't have to agree obviously. Have a good one.

@George Parker amicably agree to disagree... maybe just Malice at the Palace But seriously I think there is a difference in allowing yourself as a leader to be made fun of etc and having control over your domain. I'm all for the fun. But there are times where Dan can't just be a players coach and his unwillingness to be "a boss" hurts his ability to have controlled chaos. He seems to feel he reigns over just chaos which is significantly due to his managerial style

I admire Dan’s commitment. With that being said, I simply can’t understand Samson’s acceptance into Meadowlark. He represents the antithesis of Dan’s vision for meadowlark. I feel bad for Samson and how he built a whole broken personality around his insecurities. I admire Dan for being a loving figure. It speaks to his overflowing compassion. Have all the coffee dates and deep personal conversations, but Dan needs to understand that he has invited a cold, calculating business person into his company. I believe Samson would go scorched earth in a heartbeat if given the wrong circumstances. He would see to it that Meadowlark turns to ash while he walks away with liquid assets like he did with the Marlins.

I have had a close friend much like Samson. Border line Sociopath. However not a dangerous one or one born this way much like a psychopath is. Something in his childhood did a number on him, maybe something more than he lets on here like he mentions about his high school years. Parents showed no love/emotion maybe. Samson confuses happiness with achievement. Not sure Samson can feel happiness at this point any longer. Also the charity he does for others even behind closed doors I doubt is to bring others happiness, maybe it's to attempt to bring himself happiness or to try and feel normal. Samson isn't a bad person, it's just his mind not being able to relate the way a typical person would.

I would like to know a little bit more about his upbringing. What went on his with his parents, that he was forced to go see his mother on every break from school even if it is for a day. Did that have anything to do with his own marriage. I can imagine what his therapy sessions were like.

David is 100% correct about the Miami vs National market. I have never even slightly cared about the issues you guys constantly bring up about the Marlins. He's an incredibly smart & brilliant mind and I was listening to Nothing Personal long before I ever heard it mentioned on the show.

I see Dan getting his “interesting people curiosity” fed through his relationship with Sampson and Sampson gets “what he has really needed from a therapy session” from Dan. At the core, it’s clear these guys trust each other, which is probably the most powerful component. In a sidebar, South Beach Sessions should continue this web on relationship exploration going beyond just Dan and the team. I.e. Curious to hear Greg and Chris talk with Dan as the moderator.

Trying not to make more than one comment per video but wow, really amazing to see this friendship and communication play out on air. Really good stuff. Dan, your new producers are dead on.

First couple of times I heard Samson on the DLS, I thought, "Who is this asshole?" But it was only another couple of episodes before I "got" it. He was the perspective that was the antithesis of what the Dan LeBatard Show is about, which is the Pirate Ship. Samson represents corporate America. Samson represents "the boss", the bean counters, the company man. The villain, of sorts. Distasteful as that might seem, we NEED that perspective. We ALL need it. Companies really DON'T care about us, despite how often they tell you otherwise. Neither do politicians. In the realm of sports, the teams, and the companies and billionaires that own them, gasp! DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU EITHER. They don't care about your fandom, they don't care about how much sleep you lose when the team does poorly, or even how happy you are when the team does well. They'll let your favorite player go if it financially benefits the team, and they'll let the team tank when all you want to do is see your team win.At BEST you are just a number to your favourite team. At worst, you are that annoying aspect of running a professional sports team. They care about your dollars, not your love. And there are NO exceptions to this rule. It may be hard to hear, but it's true. Samson is the thing that perhaps few of us WANT, but ALL of us NEED. That is his gift, but it is also his curse. Personally, I've grown to love not only Samson's sports insights, but his insights into pop culture and society as a whole. And if you listen to the man, really listen, you'll see that under his armor, e's a man of great sensitivity and humanity. I didn't need this South Beach Session to understand that, but I loved it nonetheless

Dan always introduces David in a negative connotation. Dan doesn't allow the audience to get to know David

I like david samson a lot, I love his show, what he brings to the table, and that he is a part of the team now. I cringe when there is so much hate and animosity towards him from a crew we love, but for the national audience, I gotta say, I understand it. There's a level of pain that still lies within the Miami baseball fandom and David is a face of that pain. On my end, I put it 100% on Jeffrey Loria, so it's easy for me. I used to follow baseball closely, know stats, names, listen to games on the radio cause we didn't have cable. We got behind the bad team full of prospects we got after 1997 with the hope of someday not sucking. We loved the Marlins deeply and in 2003 we finally realized our dreams, and we got an amazing team as a result of our patience and support, only to have it yanked away from us right away. One day I was jumping in joy celebrating the world series, the next day, I was completely disillusioned with baseball. That was the last game of baseball I have watched since 2003. Since then I haven't cared except to look in disgust as some good players I've only heard about were, of course, traded away under false promises, like Miguel cabrera and hanley ramirez. Those trades kept confirming that our dear Marlins were not ours but they had been stolen by Jeffrey Loria to be used as an ATM machine.

David is like the player on the rival team, you just 'hate' him. Until he gets traded to your team, then all of a sudden you luv 'em...even if he's an Air Supply fan.

I stopped listening to the Lebatard show and deleted the feed after many years of listening due to how the “shipping container” behaved, specifically towards David. (And replaced it with “Nothing Personal.”) I almost skipped over this, too, expecting more of the same. I am glad I gave it a go. This was the Dan I remember pulling me in years ago. Thank you for the honest and open look at the relationship.

Wow Samson really had an axe to grind! Dan was squirming in his seat at times & dumbfounded at times. I do think David did point out some of Dan's blind spots in being a boss though.

I sincerely hope this SBS actually changes the hate-filled opinions of David. The local hours where he was 1-on-1 with Mike Ryan during early COVID, really changed my opinion of him. I hope this does it for everyone else.
