Hi it took me a year to find my 9A lathe we drove 3 hours in a snowstorm to pick it up,it was my retirement gift to myself after 50 years as a toolmaker.I was told it came from Burrard shipyard in Vancouver BC love the channel.

Congrats on your retirement. Have you made anything cool with it?

Hey buddy, glad to sell her to someone that’s so excited about south bends! Sorry about the gear…. Wish I would have known about it…. Unfortunately the guy I got it from didn’t have the tail stock. Otherwise I would have put you in contact with him. Anyways, have fun with her! Looking forward to more videos on her.

No worries. Glad you tuned in. Looks like I found a parts machine to go pick up out on the Olympic Peninsula, which will hopefully have everything I need.

McMaster Carr is top shelf. I usually get 2 day delivery and I live in Texas.

Nice addition. I share your enthusiasm for machinery. I almost pulled the trigger a couple weeks ago on a Harrison M300 locally. Was a beauty queen however price was a bit too much to justify. You’re lucky to get that piece of cast iron. I can’t find a riser anywhere for my Jet 836. Looking at 12” diameter cast or steel is off the charts.

M300 is an interesting looking lathe. I had never seen or heard of one.

@@secondarymachine7521 Most Chinese and Taiwanese lathes were and still are based/copies on the Harrison/ Colchester lathes. Used prices of these can often be as much or more than new off shore models. For example, the Harrison I was considering went for 11k CAD.

Want to know how to break the teeth on a bull gear? Engage the back gear and don't pull the pin on the bull gear to lock the plot up to break the chuck loose from the spindle.

Had a 9A, needed a bigger spindle bore so I got a logan 11". The south bend is MUCH nicer to run. I'll always be sad I sold the 9A.

Spindle bore is what I will miss about my old lathe also...

Thanks, I stumbled on some youtube videos and just found it fascinating. Picked up my first Atlas lathe soon after..

I have a 40's C model with the 4.5' bed and just wonder what the going price for these old lathes are? Really want to sell this along with a lot of add-ons but not sure what they are worth.
@secondarymachine752111 ай бұрын
The C isn't as desirable as an A for obvious reasons. The value is usually somewhat dependent on your location. West coast= higher values. East coast is usually less.

Mc mastecarr is great. Speedy metal is quicker and as little better in price.

It was surprisingly difficult to source what I needed. Metal Supermarket, which is local to me, wasn't even willing to source it for me. Super Market my ass...lol

try speedy metal out of Wisconsin very good. @@secondarymachine7521
