Hi Steven, my mother was born in southie 1914 my mother and father lived in southie I lived in southie originally Italians live herebefore 1900 but the irish came and stayed .then slowly old irish started leaving, yuppies discovered soutie had nice beaches nice houses to fix up .then they found how close southie was to downtown boston.Couldnt believe there luck. But for years yuppies were afraid of the very tough irish living there.plus whitey bulger and his gang were there.
