I really like the way you had the road names on the bottom of your video. Great job! LOL, I posted a video on following to closely. Totally my fault. Lesson learned!

Between my ol VW bus and now my KLR650 I've always said I could potentially connect Ceasars Head to Charleston on mostly dirt and have tried alot over the last 23 years. So glad there is now a route that travels some of my favorite dirt and back roads. I can't wait to ride the SCAR in the next few months.

Fantastic video and ride. Great edits, music, sequencing, the whole smash! Would LOVE to do this but 1) About 20% is probably beyond my current off-road ability and 2) that's magnified with a HEAVY bike (Yam S10) and being an older solo rider. Could easily get into a real pickle in the "peanut-butter" (I don't like pickle and PB!). Thanks for putting this together. Terrific effort!!
@MotoTherapy Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! I encourage you to give the SCAR a chance some time. Most of it is quite manageable. For example, the “peanut butter” was on one of the more difficult alternate sections.

Very nice work w the creation of the video! Anyway you have your GPX routes you can share and identify which are the pavement segments vs non? I know the SCAR website has the maps but they do not identify the pavement vs non. Thanks again for the nice vid
@MotoTherapy2 жыл бұрын
There is no good way to identify the composition of every road. But there are some general maps that depict the predominately paved and sandy sections in the “user guide” page of the SCAR website.

Good video. SCAR is on list of to-dos soon. I'm on a Super Tenere. What tires did you run for this?
@MotoTherapy Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I had Shinko 804/805s on the Africa Twin. I don't remember what Hans was running on his GSA. The Shinko's are a great tire for a SCAR thru-ride, as they handle all surfaces (and especially the sandy areas) well. Have a great trip!

What tires were you running on the Africa Twin? Seemed like it handled the mud pretty well.
@MotoTherapy Жыл бұрын
Shinko 804/805s. They are a great value, and they do very well in sand and mud.
@MikesProjectsandHobbiesMC Жыл бұрын
@@MotoTherapy Kinda debating between those and AX41s. At first I was concerned with tread wear on pavement but I don't think either one is any better and the Shinkos are way more cost effective. Great video BTW.

I am from Northern Lower Michigan and we have a lot of sand. How much sand on this route?
@MotoTherapy2 жыл бұрын
If you go to this link and scroll down, you will see a map with the sandy sections highlighted. I'd guess those sections comprise about 150-200 miles, and the route is about 40% off pavement, so that means about 60-80 miles are sandy. scadventureroute.wixsite.com/website/user-guide

Looks like great fun. I've only done the piece from ~I-95 to ~I-85, but on 3 different days in my Xterra. What action camera and which drone did you use? Wednesday did it from Bamburg to I-20 with three guys on bikes, and one crashed on Cline Taylor Rd within feet of where you did, on a similar bike.
@MotoTherapy4 жыл бұрын
Action cam was a Hero 5 Black (vlog cam on my handlebar was a Garmin VIRB). Drone was a DJI Mavic Mini. Yeah...that deep/dry sand challenged us!

There are no paper maps, but there is an interactive Google map and downloadable GPX files on the SCAR website at www.scadventureroute.com. The route is also pre-loaded in the OnX Offroad app.

Thanks for putting this route together. Do y'all think I could traverse this thing in my AWD Subaru (with decent ground clearance)? Or would I need to use my 4WD Land Cruiser? The Land Cruiser looks way cooler, but it gets like 13 MPG (probably worse on dirt and gravel), and the Subaru is quite a bit more comfortable.
@MotoTherapy3 жыл бұрын
Subaru should be good on the primary route, but maybe not for a of the more difficult alternate options.
