The transfer in of Te-Hina Paopao and the recruitment of Tessa Johnson are 2 of the best moves South Carolina made last offseason. Paopao's senior leadership was such a valuable asset to help Johnson grow so quickly at the collegiate level. Tessa has ice in her veins and I look forward to watching her continue to grow. She can make offensive plays at every level - she can create space from well beyond the arc, she has a great aggressive midrange, and she's not afraid to drive to the basket - and her defensive prowess improved throughout the season. Tessa is my absolute favorite player on the Carolina roster and she has the potential to be an integral leader of a 4 time National Championship squad.

Tessa is just smooth! Very calm under pressure. She played this game under the same control as the NCAA National Championship Game. She also plays defense now at SC. LOL

This seems like as good a time as any to look back at this post, now that her first season is in the books. She still has more work to do on her game (on both sides of the floor), but WOW, she progressed a ton throughout the year. Couldn't be more proud of seeing her set a career high and lead all SC scorers in the Natty (off the bench even) - en route to the win. She will be a force to contend with for years to come.

If you watch her, you will notice that she is not as effective going right; Van Lith is the same way.

She definitely favors going to the left, but she improved a lot (a hell of a lot more than HVL did) because Carolina does a great job of moving the ball around. That said, her pull up midrange is pretty solid (going either way) and her rainbow 3's are a thing of beauty. She also has a super high IQ for the game and rarely takes a bad shot. She's in the right place, at Carolina, to continue to develop her game. She's gonna have a stellar NCAA career when it's all said and done.
