Good video, my opinion is South Carolina sucks so hard I strongly suggest you look elsewhere, especially if you are of color... Every political figure is laughable corrupt, both black and white races still segregate, yes blacks... Look up national pan hellenic society aka BOULE... If anyone wants to debate me on this I have currently 5 federal lawsuits from civil rights infringements by the state agencies, I come from California so I'm not down with the good old boy systemic bullish.... If you white, you already have it good so why go to south carolina, it's like wasting your whiteness 😂 And humidity and bird size mosquitos are definitely not good things.. Do not come to south carolina, move to north carolina it's better there...

HaHaHa! I'm a native Charlestonian, and back in the 80s there was a Georgian comedian that had this same concept in his monologue. My favorite of his is: "If you don't like how we do things down here, and you moved here from the North, then Delta is ready when you are." I said that to one of my co-workers, who every other word out of his mouth was 'back in ..., we did it this way'. He got mad at me and reported me. I told him that we don't like northerners telling us how to do things down here, and if you disliked where you lived before, then why did you move out of there and compare everything to your old hometown? We became friends after a time.

I was born in Summerville SC and received my education from the University of South Carolina. After graduating, I could never find a job in Columbia because I had no family heritage for the job. It became a place to work based on whom you knew. I was able to get jobs based on corporate ownership, When I was 46, I finally moved to North Carolina. Although I was born in SC, I never felt that I fit in. I finally made it to Winston Salem where I have retired. I discovered that there are community bands and orchestras here that I never found in South Carolina. I picked up my clarinet and saxophone and participated. I have felt more welcome here. To live in a place that makes you unwelcome is truly against the spirit in which this country was founded.

@@mikef2813 I do feel for her or him that made this post, kind of bad, I guess. but your comment says a lot and makes a lot of sense. bc if, specifically an adult , feels like they dont fit in, thats more of a personal maybe even interpersonal issue. its not the state, its like a paranoid thing. unless that person did something that would cause some sort of baggage that he couldnt socially play his instrument (ha!) , then theres no reason to move. ooo! and I just noticed that his last sentence reads that "to live in a place that makes you unwelcome ..etc" which clearly means there must have been a reason, an action, something that the community or "a place" as he put it made him unwelcome. instruments dont make you feel unwelcome . his or her behavior was unwelcomed
@kewl8512 жыл бұрын
the thing about not being able to find a job bc you "had no family heritage for the job." what company didnt hire you that you think you didnt have family heritage for that specific job? im respectfully asking that is not at all rhetorical. im asking that bc Columbia SC (which you were looking for a job after graduating) is not known for old money and there are concert halls there and orchestra performing arts centers that welcome musical coaches and brass instrument players. especially recent graduates of USC. Columbia's Chamber of Commerce is FULL of business owners that own successful businesses that specialize in instrument sales and rentals. And if sales isnt really your thing, many members of the chamber can point you in the right direction. PLUS most of them are USC graduates. This information is easy to find. btw, everyone has a family heritage. unless youre a lab born baby (which is not common, but some ppl actually are born from blank cells and eggs in a lab , ) Columbia is renown for being a melting pot of all folks , from all different countries, almost maybe even more, students, even students without a college education after a USC graduation, you'd be hard pressed to run into someone you know, unless its a bar, five points *maybe.* but not someone that knows your baggage and is hiring. being a USC graduate plus in Cola as far as interviewing and looking for a career, would help you bc youre likely being interviewed by a USC alumni that talks about USC and asks things like "oh! does Professor Jones still teach over there?" K, so in a nutshell, youre lying. you dont have to have someone that knows your family to get a job interview in Cola unless its a family run business that keeps the place run by their family only, like a generational thing. you cant tell me that the Columbia Department of Transportation (just an example ) only hires people that have well known families, I mean "family heritages " Wells Fargo, Richland County Government, McDonalds. Most if not all of my dear friends knew that you cant be picky and we all knew that its very difficult to get your dream job immediately after college graduation . any job will do while actively applying for the career that you really want. dont blame SC for not getting hired by companies that aren't interested in your clarinet and saxophone talents. dont tell us a story that doesnt explain the whole truth. when you mentioned "not having a family Heritage for a "specific job" total red flag. Columbia is not a "who you know" city. and whats with the "jobs based on corporate ownership?" what does that even mean? You were able to get jobs based on you owning a corporation?! what was your major? and you did get "jobs" in Cola, according to you. So why are you saying you couldnt get a job and then say you did get jobs. waiting until 46 to move bc SC makes you feel "unwelcome " is unnerving to SC natives. If SC, particularly , our capital city is that bad, why did you continue to stay there? If 134, 100 people made you feel unwelcome, its not them, its you.

How can you say the the people here don't care about bettering themselves and are content to live in poverty. That is totally absurd and not true. I thought this video was going to be a tribute to SC. Instead it was a slam on our great state and very derogatory. If SC is so bad why are people moving here in droves. The Republicans suck too {they ordered the burning} but their control (at present) is why we have clawed our way back from that. Worth noting, as well: In the last year we had two cities under curfew* and that wasn't for very long. Six fires ,six arson convictions...that's all the trouble we have had. *Charleston and Columbia.

I grew up just across the state line in N.C. . I worked with a lot of people from S.C. from the dillion area. A.lot of the women would have tears in their eyes as they described the condition of the schools there. The books their kids would get the beginning of the year were old and falling apart. They'd have to glue books back together. They still had steam heat, a lot of broken windows, mold was a problem. The issues were long.

Growing up in NJ, I can attest more taxes funding education does NOT mean better schools. Heck, I've compared rural & suburban middle class NJ schools in Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland, Camden, Atlantic, Burlington, & Cape May counties in NJ, to (SC schools near Charlotte) Fort Mill, Clover, Rock Hill, Indian Land, Lewisville & (SC schools near Myrtle Beach) of Carolina Forest, St. James, Waccamaw, Aynor, Socastee, Green Sea, North MB, & MB. Many of these South Carolina school districts are equal to or far exceed the schools in NJ that are soaking taxpayers. Heck, the schools in Fort Mill, SC are Nationally Ranked & people are falling over themselves to move into FM as a middle class town in large part because of the schools. With only Charlotte metro magnet schools & the most affluent pockets of the Charlotte metro having higher rankings. When it comes to quality public schools it's 1/4 engaged parents, 1/4 engaged teachers, 1/4 tax revenue collected, & 1/4 HOW EFFICIENTLY that tax rev was spent. Time & time again it's been shown that the poorer the community the less parent engagement (usually because of work or family situations), the less parent engagement the lower teacher engagement as they get burned out, also poor communities usually don't have a good tax rev base to draw from, then you have the normal wildly inefficient use of the funds common in public schools. Sadly poor communities usually have issues in all four areas.

Living in the rural lowcountry vs living in Rock Hill near Charlotte is like night and day. In most towns in SC (with the exception of the larger cities), everything is closed after 9 or 10pm. No night life outside of a restaurant bar here or there. Growing up in rural Colleton county, the closest gas station near our home was 7 miles away. Voting republican vs democrat would have some meaningful change but it doesn't. A lot of us that are working adults that grew up skew more libertarian vs. partisan 2. School funding would improve educational outcomes? You approach issues in a lot of the video about residual effects of parents choices to the next generation. I think this is the dominant force. One of your interviews speaks to this because just do whatever to get by (government programs) thus setting a low bar for themselves. I want to break that mindset as much as anyone. I think there’s a misconception about the south switching from Dem to Rep because of racism. The Dems were the original slavery lovers. The KKK was an arm of the Dems. People switched because they saw the left getting away from Christian values and the Dems desire to grow the government. There are other reasons but racism is hardly one of them.
