the starting lineup will literally just be feagin replacing kamilla. ashlyn or chloe at the 4. or she will switch them out certain games like she did last year
@back2sports3 ай бұрын
IMO feagin not as good on defence and line up is better with Watkins & Kitts playing together
@jjaylanni3 ай бұрын
@@back2sports well you would obviously expect improvement from her on that end. plus it’s not like she was a horrible defender, she’s literally the 2nd best shot blocker next to ash. just a few lapses here and there, same case as everyone else. but i would assume she fully locks in next year if she wants a shot at the W.
@jeromesmith39683 ай бұрын
They don’t be watching FR. Feagin literally came in for Kamilla all year and never missed a beat ESPECIALLY in the tournament! She defended Beers, Holmes, Baldwin, and Stuelke very well so idk wtf back 2 sports talking about and Dawn is going to reward her for waiting her time. No way in hell anyone else is taking that spot.
@kimberlygreen83772 ай бұрын
Agree. Feagin's better than Ashlyn on offense. She has a better mid-range shot and her footwork is impressive. Ashlyn & Fulwiley coming off the bench will bring that second wave of intensity that Dawn loves.

I think they are all starters it’s just who plays well together best. So long as egos don’t creep in they will be very hard to beat if they can rotate out like the undefeated run they just had.

I would like to see a line-up of Watkins, Edwards, Fulwiley, Hall and PaoPao. Even though it's unlikely that Dawn will start Edwards and not start Raven Johnson.

South Carolina should never have allowed Sarah Strong to see the 18 point beat down they put on UConn sans Cardoso. Sarah, seeing that game, and knowing that Joyce had committed, must have seen herself riding the bench for an unacceptable amount of time. Good luck Sarah. We'll see you down the road.

I don't think it much matters what the starting lineup is. As you stated at the end, there were players you didn't even mention, and you barely mentioned Tessa and Feagin. Tessa seemed to improve as the season advanced, she's going to be scary the next few years. I can see the W drafting players from SC who didn't even start, like Amehere. And I'm a UCONN fan, so not a 'homer' pumping up the team. But as a WBB fan, you have to appreciate talent whereever it is, and this team is scary! Thank goodness there are only 15 scholarships.

Great comments! I think the Gamecock’s and UCONN are 1 & 2 with UCLA, Texas, USC being the next tier. Notre Dame could make it into this group. They have great starting five but have unproven depth on their bench. What are your thoughts on this?
@back2sports3 ай бұрын
Tessa & hall did not play together. Thier defence stats are better with Hall on floor than Tessa. But Tessa had great freshman year
@RustyLou183 ай бұрын
@@keithanderson7141 My thoughts are UCONN is not even in the top 5, nope.
@dougpost89583 ай бұрын
@@keithanderson7141 Much as I like UCONN, I think their frontcourt is both light and somewhat unproven. We did see how the rookies stepped up last year, and hopefully Jana, Sarah and Ice and maybe Ayanna will prove me wrong. But SC can keep going to their bench and not lose much, and maybe even gain some (Tessa and Fulwiley coming off the bench!) I haven't stayed as on top of the rosters of the others, but they all made improvements, filled some holes and generally improved. Would really have liked Kiki to come to Storrs, but it is what it is. She and Juju and Talia bring a lot of firepower, but they'll need to figure out how to share the ball. Texas with Rori coming back will be tough, UCLA has a year of Betts under their belt. I don't remember the details, will have to go look at the roster, but I remember thinking a couple of months ago that ND has really improved, but can they play two shooting guards at the same time? The unknown of course is the breakup of the PAC12 and how new opponents and travel schedules will affect the former teams (Stanford in the ACC!?!?!.) I am expecting the top teams to play really well, there will always be a few doormats, but a lot of parity in the middle. And those teams are the ones to keep an eye on in case one or more get hot with unexpected player contributions.

Tessa plays pretty good defense, too. And that Dawn Staley knows quite well. South Carolina can start just about whoever they want to. It's who finishes the close games that matters more than who starts. And as long as the team wins neither they nor we care who starts.

Great show ❤ the analysis. New wrinkle could be Dawn will probably press more like during the UNC game in the tournament now that Cardoso is in the W. If she does that more consistently then the margin of victories would be greater and the increased depth would demoralize teams. This team may not go undefeated but they will be better top to bottom than last year’s squad. 😊

USC (Southern Cal) and Notre Dame will be the ONLY threats to our Gamecocks. I still have high hopes SC will go undefeated and WIN IT ALL in 2024-25!

Glad you got into the weeds with ths. Fulwiley's offense comes from her defense. She'll continue to become an elite defender. How can you not mention Tessa Johnson? She was their best player - other than Camilla - in the final 4 last year. The championship game shifted in SCs favor when Tessa subbed out Bree and Raven clamped down Caitlyn Clark after CC torched Bree in the 1st quarter. I like Bree, but I think Tessa and Malaysia’s talent will be displayed more this year.
@back2sports3 ай бұрын
Raven shut down CC . SC defence was better with bree Hall on floor. With every line up +/- & defence better with Hall which did suprise me. But numbers show line up with hall, Fulwiley , Johnson is their best or was their best last season.

Joyce Edwards ( MVP of the McDonald's game) and one of the top two or three high school players in the USA will have to get some time as a freshman this year for S.C. The roster is so deep and talented that it won't be easy for Coach Staley to keep everyone happy.

I am like Belichick analytics and statistic are for losers leaving all that to the couch potatoes sports pundits. SC 2022-23 team should have been the champions if not for what I deem social engineering in that tournament facing Iowa. They vindicated in 2023-24 as champs and now dynasty continues. Dawn has pheareth of talent coming in, but the core is still there. So now mixing the ingredient to see what she have.

Teri Moren, did a great job of keeping Sarah Strong on the bench so Edwards would have little competition for MVP. And this Heckel, you know the one with the Caitlyn Clark syndrome. Totally palming the ball, like Clark, to make all those bounce passes, driving the ball like a maniac, then flopping all over the floor, like Clark. She missed how many attempted drives. I especially liked the 3 on 0 fast break in which she was the slowest player, but it seems she never met a teammate she'd like to pass the ball to. Some of these kids will have to learn what "team" means when they get under people like Auriemma and Staley.

Sarah played 1 minute less per game on average than Joyce. Just give Joyce her love and move on.
@vikb31313 ай бұрын
In EVERY tournament Strong and Edwards played in, except the McDonalds game, Edwards was the MVP. In the McDonalds game, they were co- mvps, although clearly Edwards was THE MVP. Moren saw what coaches and others saw in these other tournaments, Edwards is elite because she plays BOTH sides of the ball. Strong is an excellent player but her defense is not as elite as her offense. Also, it's absurd to suggest Moren would risk potentially losing in an international tournament and impact her own coaching legacy just so Edwards could be the MVP😅. Guy, that makes absolutely no sense. However, most coaches do have a preference for playing the better players. But, I think the person with the real bias here is you. Clearly, you have a preference for Strong.
