I was stationed in Korea (1967-68). It is incredible the progress the country has made since then. I left the country when there were few, if any paved roads north of Seoul). It was agrarian, poor ... a true third world country. What a remarkable transformation!

I lived in S. Korea for 13 months, in 1972-1973, in the US Army. I was stationed well to the north of Seoul, near the DMZ. Winters do get cold, and summers hot and muggy, similar to the weather here in my home area in upstate NY. The country was still a developing nation in those days. What they have achieved there since I was there is truly a marvel. The people there are so industrious, I think it was just inevitable they would become an economic powerhouse.

Im Korean and Im not used to dollor-won change rate, maybe have to have more than at least 10,000,000,000 won to retire here(retire and to have comfort live). I served in Korea in the mid-60s. I loved the country then and I am so proud of what they have achieved during the intervening years. It is a miracle what they have done in such a short time. All Korea needed to bloom in its own right was to have some freedom from the heavy-handed interference from its more powerful neighbors, China and Japan. Korea now does not have to surrender its individuality to any other country. Korea should be proud of itself. Good going Korea.

@@TheBkflorida pretty easy! They have the signs in hangul and the standard alphabet. Everything perfectly signed. A downside is that google maps doesn't work that well (because north Korea safety stuff) buy they have and alternative app. Street food and markets are great!

My wife is Korean. She came to America at age 22 and barely spoke English. Took English as a second language and 4 years later graduated with a 4-year degree as a Registered Nurse. Today she works in a US Army Hospital as a GS-13 which is a high position for those that don't know. YES, I am very proud of her. She worked like hell to get where she is and raised our two children. I miss South Korea. We been there last November 2019. We enjoyed our 1 week stay and touring Seoul and the rest of our itinerary. I miss our Tour Guide. She is so nice and speaks English very well. What I also like in Korea is there is an abundance of tissue paper . You can find it anywhere. The food is good also. All the places we been are clean . A lot of tunnels. My Wife and I are American, we live near Seattle Wa. We have been to South Korea twice for two weeks each time. Once to attend the wedding of our eldest Son (2001) to a beautiful South Korean girl from Pusan and once to attend the birth of our first Grand daughter. She is now 18 and wants to go to visit her South Korean family after finishing studies at University of Wa. My Wife and I love the people of South Korea, they are forward thinking people, proud of the struggles they have endured for thousands of years to maintain their culture and their heritage. We visited Seoul as well as many, many other regions of the country. BTW, we adore our wonderful Daughter-in-Law and her family.

Thanks CV , another great vid .It would be wrong to call S Korea an Asian giant anymore .They are world champions in science,tech and now culture too . People all over the world look up to S Korea . What an incredible transformation for a country which came out of WW2 ravaged and impoverished - nothing but hard work and discipline . Funny sounding Korean nouns are now household names worldwide - Hyundai , Samsung,LG etc. I would certainly love to travel around this great country and experience the culture and hospitality .

I visited South Korea ten years ago. It was a positive experience in almost every way. I found South Korea to be green and very clean. Traveling there is wonderful because the roads are in great condition and the rest stops along the way are frequent and have everything you need and more. Things there seemed be be made for the benefit of the public. Such as roofed shelters in the parks in case of a sudden rain storm. Of the people and for the people unlike here in the US. The only down side of my trip was the food with soy sauce and sesame seed oil. The meals in the temple usually did not use these and the meals there were wonderful. The people are very friendly and caring. A great vacation choice. My three weeks were not enough.
