Was there in the late 00's- early '10's, would have loved to have gone in the 80's or 90's. There were still some holdovers from that era when I was there, but by the time I left they were mostly gone. Some of the stuff in this video looks familiar to me.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of prosperity, it was the age of abject poverty, it was the epoch of a fight for the truth, it was the epoch of a brutal oppression, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way. It was a time of a brutal oppressive regime murdering thousands in Gwangju and other places, and it was a time where the citizens fought against the dictatorship. All in the midst of the great Korean economic miracle.

Exactly, partner. There are not just good or bad times because reality is multidimensional. Prosperity and happiness always flourish at the same time as hardship and pain. This ethnographic fiction project aims to bring back the good times past through a meticulous selection of aesthetic visual material, but I am beginning to worry as I observe how people simply long for the past time considering the current one as trash, without being able to take into account the multiple layers of this prism.

@@jamesdakrn Yes, I know about that. I was living in Korea before and I travelled there in 5 different occasions. However, the objective of these projects is not and will never be a realistic documentary, what we create here is something else. Until just before the 1988 Olympics, South Korea maintained a somewhat isolationist policy towards foreigners, albeit not as stringent as North Korea. wasn't south korea really poor in the 1980's? I remember many south korean children were adopted to Sweden (my country) and other countries at that time. at the time they were called "the korea children". now they have all grown up and reached their middle age.

There is another documentary about that in this channel. But I guess it is the aesthetic side of south korea

Rich for an Asian country but far poorer than western nations. My parents were born in 1972 and according to them korea was pretty poor until 1986, with things really improving from the 88 Olympics onward. I didn’t know there were Korean adoptees in Sweden though, most of the ones I’ve heard about went to the US and Canada!

@@realAlexChoi oh they adopted many here! I think pretty much everyone in Sweden growing up in the 70's and 80's knows at least one korean adoptee, or has had one in their class or knows one that knows one etc.they are fully integrated here and are now in their 40's and 50's

@@Alex_Gordon I didn’t know that! That’s very interesting, most of the overseas Korean communities I know of are in the US and Canada so it’s always cool to hear about Koreans elsewhere

At that time, South Korean people probably weren't very popular with plastic surgery.
