The original Three Stooges were Larry, Moe & Curly then Larry, Moe & Curly Joe then Larry Moe & Shemp. The original Curly suffered a stroke and was for a brief time Curly Joe until Shemp joined.

That was the original film lineup, but Shemp preceded Curly on the Vaudeville circuit. He decided not to do the films and so was replaced by his and Moe's younger brother, Jerome (aka Curly). Shemp wanted to go solo, but it didn't pan out so came back to the Stooges when Curly couldn't continue.

Me and my grandfather used to watch the 3 stooges on his VHS tapes before he passed away, good times. I was maybe 10 or 11 and he would tell me that I could have beer as long as I don't tell grandma and we would go through a 12 pack over a few episodes. Good times man...

Three stooges you have the original Moe, Curly, and Larry. I don’t remember if it was a heart attack or stroke, but that’s what happened to Curly, and why he was replaced with Shemp. Fun fact Moe, Curly, and Shemp are all real life brothers. There is one episode with Shemp where Curly felt well enough to make a appearance, but not as his usual character. The episode is called “Hold that Lion”, and it marks the only time in history all three brothers were on screen together. They eventually way towards the end they had to replace Shemp as well, with Joe, played by Joe Besser, and they even had to replace Besser at the end with Curly Joe, played by Joe Derita. Slap stick comedy isn’t for everyone, but I grew up with it and can see the comedy in it, which is quite rare I’d guess for someone my age, but I enjoy it occasionally.
