Crab People is a inside joke from the writers. Every time they don't really know how to resolve a plotline someone might suggest "let's just do crab people".

One of the reasons why I love this episode is the first scene. It just comes out of nowhere. Even when you know the name of the episode you're just not ready for that. Kyle represents the audience, walking into the situation with no idea what the fuck is going on.

Crab People is an inside joke because in the episode "Quest for Ratings" Cartman suggests a story on "crab people" during a brainstorm session. Believe it or not Crab People is actually from Ancient Japanese Mythology. Believed to have been the corrupted souls of reincarnated naval warriors. It would not surprise me if Tray Parker knows this because he is a huge fan of Japanese culture and history.

7:00 as out there as it is for the boys to use the f-slur to describe themselves in this scene, it’s very common in the gay community for some to refer to themselves like that. It’s like how for years how those of us in the black community reclaimed the n-word from being used a slur to our ancestors, to a word some use all the time in conversation within our community in place of our names. If you’re a person of color, you’ve probably said the n-word just goofing around in normal conversation with your peers. It’s basically the same thing in the gay community. This isn’t to say that every gay person likes being referred to this way, just that it’s a way some make due after being insulted or demeaned for generations for their orientation and identities.
@ReeN19956 ай бұрын
Boy, you are reading waaaay to much into it and miss the joke. The joke is that they turned a 180, something they and most people during that time used as a light hearted insult is now their personality. I feel like you look through a very modern lens at this. Everybody understands what you explained, but back then it was an insult to people who arent even gay. It's just suppossed to trigger people, like he said "Fighting words"

Honestly, also bi (well, pan), but I think this post is worth a distinction between thoughts and words. To me, DF comes off as cool with whatever your vibe is. He doesn't mind, and he doesn't judge; you do you. It's just that the way he phrases things sometimes can come across that way, because he's not in that conversation, so he sometimes unknowingly taps notes for those of us who are. He comes from a different place than we queer folks who live that life, and honestly, part of the joy of these videos is watching him react from *his* specific perspective. His reactions are so fun and so raw, it's easy to tell he's a genuine and soulful person. Whether he's up on all involved political dramas doesn't matter, and it's honestly part of the fun.

I don't even think he's homophobic or anything. Cause in this episode the kids ARENT acting nornal, he isn't saying being gay isn't normal or is bad. The kids themselves are acting weird and different from usual. I mean he has absolutely no problem with Mr slave and big gay al, he said al is a better person than garrison. It is a political science. If you have been aggressively ignored and need to be accepted by institutions in power, your demand heave to come from further and more radical positions than the minimum stance you are willing to agree on at the end. Just like haggling in the market. Because then your default position will be seen as more agreeable by the other side. The freshest examples - BLM and radical feminism, when "moderate" feminists doesn't look as modern and "forcing" anymore, actually they even seen more "conservative" by comparison lol.

I jive with Kyle most out of the boys, and this is a good example of why--he follows his heart, even when it's against the grain. Sometimes, that takes him to nasty places (and Cartman knows it, which is part of how Cartman can so easily rope him into his schemes, despite Kyle being The Smart One). But in times like this, it takes Kyle down a zig-zagging path toward fixing things, and one can't help but root for that.
