For added context, the original Indiana Jones trilogy is universally loved by every kid that grew up in the 80s, including myself. It was generally stipulated that since it had been nearly 20 years that the story was over, so right out the gate there was skepticism regarding Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. But nostalgia is a powerful thing, especially when the quality of newer blockbusters in the late 2000s was clearly trending downward, so everybody who loved the earlier movies went to see it anyway, basically hoping against hope that it would be good. I think all of this plays into how betrayed a lot of fans of the earlier movies felt. If it had not been tied to the Indiana Jones story and they just created a new protagonist, it probably would have been regarded as a decent action/adventure movie by late 2000s standards. All of that being said, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was almost high art compared to the unadulterated ish-storm known as Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny.

Tru dat yo. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is flawed, one of the weakest entries, but at least it had soul. Even after breaking free from the Anti-Woke Grift Cult, I still think that Dial of Destiny lacks soul or heart, because I do consider Raiders of the Lost Ark one of my favourite films, topped only by Superman: The Movie, so for them to do the Last Jedi subversive-for-subversion's-sake treatment on Indy feels pretty tonedeaf considering that Crystal Skull, for its faults, had a perfect ending to the character. Oh, well. Thank god for the upcoming Great Circle game continuing Indy's legacy in a satisfactory way.

Dial of Destiny was much worse than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Say what you will about surviving the nuke in a fridge or having aliens tied to the Mayans culture, but is it any sillier than time travel being tied to Archimedes? People tolerated Stargate tying aliens to Egyptian culture, so quit kicking that dead horse. It at least felt like closure to Indy's story; he retired from archeology field work to become assistant dean of the university, marries Marion, and is connecting with a son he never knew like he did with his father. I'm sorry, but Mutt Williams wasn't nearly as annoying as Helena Shaw, and we really didn't need to Ghostbusters 2 the romance with Indy and Marion *a second time* for the last adventure.

The original 3 movies are loved, so when they came out with a 4th people were excited, but it was not what people expected. In addition to being considered bad by people, the story was kinda crazy and very unlike the original indiana jones' movies so it was like Lucas and spielberg just r*ped Indiana Jones because they didnt care about the story or the franchise but wanted to make a buck

No, indiana was never R'd in the movies, the movies are appropriate for all ages, action, adventure, kill'n bad guys, finding lost treasures... mostly of the religious variety. But IJ:KotCS had to do with aliens and it wasn't recieved well for introducing the NON-religious ANTI-faith tone that made the movie "alien" to the overall iconic and beloved series. Imagin if they made a new "lethal weapon" movie WITH mel and danny but they weren't armed and they were social workers now, it would not be recieved well either lol

I have really mixed feelings about this episode. The Indiana Jones plotline is just one mediocre joke being beaten into the ground over and over. It wasn't really funny the first time and it definitely didn't need to be done over and over. On the other hand Cartman and Butters were hilarious. I mean those 2 are usually hilarious when they get to be the center of an episode together. But this was particularly good. The actual China Problem part of this episode is peak South Park.

I think that is more of a result of its satire tone and your own feeling on the subject. Matt and Trey are cinephiles and truly love and hate movies with a passion.​ I think they are being honest about loving him that much and hating crystal skull even more,and acknowledge how bias they are,with Indiana coming out when they were 15,so it or probably shaped their childhood a bit. So, what they're trying to say in this episode was that the new Indianda jones movie that came out during the first airing of this episode was so bad that to the boys, it looked like George and Steven graped Indiana jones' career.
