So, a few things. First, yes, this what Scientologists actually believe. Second, if you noticed the credits, everyone was listed as John or Jane Smith. That's because Scientologists are well-known for suing anyone who pokes fun of them even the smallest bit, and so crediting everyone as John and Janes Smith was the writers' way of protecting everyone. And after this episode aired, Scientologists had the writers investigated to try and find anything they could incriminate them with, but ended up finding nothing they could use, stating that they were just "two ordinary guys". Third, the voice actor for Chef, who was a Scientologist, was unfortunately pressured into leaving the show because of this episode, and even his church sent the writers' notice quitting for him on his behalf. Watch the episode The Return Of Chef for the writers', um... response to them doing this.

While Scientologists did send the message to have him quit, he actually didn't have any problems with the episode itself since he knew Matt and Trey really well. Unfortunately around the time the episode was releasing was also when his health was greatly declining. He likely would have left on his own later than when he was forced to with the health issues in mind.

I actually heard a darker story behind Chef's VA. He had actually suffered a really bad stroke (Or seizure?) and the group of Scientology used his confusion as a way to get him to quit. So it's said, not sure how true it is and I can't really take it at face value.

The whole Xenu story is actual Scientology lore but they don't reveal any of this to you until you reach OT Level III which takes many years of dedication and six-figures of your money. Otherwise, the vast majority of Scientologists won't know what you're talking about, and the ones who do know what you're talking about are basically told to pretend they have no idea. Big coincidence, by the way, the founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, was a shitty pulp science fiction author, but I'm sure that had nothing to do with his terribly written story about Xenu the galactic ruler and alien souls. Tom Cruise also threatened Viacom, which owns Comedy Central and Paramount, to not rerun this episode of South Park or he'd pull out doing promotion for Mission Impossible 3, and Comedy Central indeed didn't rerun it for a while. If you're interested, you should definitely read about L. Ron Hubbard who was basically a sociopath... it's certainly a rabbit hole but an interesting one.

Yeah there was a video of either a Scientologist or ex Scientologist talking about this episode. Basically he said that there were slight differences in the story but it’s pretty spot on. He was saying the personality test is real to try to convince people to come spend money. He was basically saying the biggest difference is a lot of the crazy shit they say requires you’ve been with them a long time and spent thousands of dollars at the church, which at that time you wouldn’t want to denounce something you invested so much money into. Prob wouldn’t be a good reaction video as it’s already a reaction lol, but if you feel like watching on your own it’s pretty worth it tbh. This is actual Scientology doctrine, but Scientologists don't learn about it until they reach OT IIII, which requires many years and hundreds of thousands of dollars. Scientologists are actually taught that if they hear any of this material before they reach OT III. So it's technically true that Scientologists believe this, but most Scientologists don't know that they believe it.
