Hello 👋 @Joseph Hernandez, welcome! I thought the exact same thing when I saw South Street. It was my first visit in about 15 years and I was shocked and saddened by what I saw. I have many fond memories of South Street from the 1980’s and ‘90’s. But now….it’s very different. 😓 Thanks so much for stopping in. ☺️

I kind of like South Street more now. It’s great for solo afternoon walks. The mellow quiet is actually pleasant. You can still find packed lively places but it will be in other parts of the city. If you’re adventurous and want to see more packed fun places, I recommend visiting other cities in other countries if possible. Fun stuff and a learning experience. Philly is still great though even though it’s underrated.

I've been taken along for a stroll along South Street, Philadelphia... loved it! Of course, l don't recognize the names of the shops and all. Very different from over here. But l do know Häagen-Dazs, a brand of delicious ice cream! (@ 4:09) Not so different from over here are the vacant commercial sites. Due to the covid lockdowns, quite some people didn't see how to continue and closed up for good. Especially restaurants, cafes, bistros and such are the victims. They still aren't allowed to open, here. Only take-away is possible. Seems the same over there (?) You mentioned your birthday in the description and during the video. In January... Is January 24th your birthday then? If it was, a belated but heartfelt happy birthday, Terri Jo! Glad you had a nice day, despite of the shock of all the changes. I had my birthday already too, on January 10th. Nothing celebrational going on, of course. I hope to catch up next year! Thank you for the video! Enjoyed it! 😀👍

Hello Carina, Thanks so much for your ongoing support I appreciate your feedback and look forward to reading your comments. Yes a lot of restaurants and shops have closed due to the pandemic. South street declined even before the pandemic. Part of the reason is that other parts of Philly got better and has easier access from the subway. South street is not a convenient location actually. Also tourism in Philly is not that big. New York basically attracts most of the tourists leaving Philly a little dry. That said, I kind of like South Street a little better as more a mellow place.

The damage you see in Philadelphia has occurred because of the pandemic and especially the riots!. I use to be in Philly all the time and south street was still fine. Then after I went back after then pandemic cooled down and the riots stopped I went back (spring 2022). I normally start walking from the foot of south street and walk across town to the river then up to the art museum and back. I was SHOCK and DISGUSTED! Trash on the street like NYC , hardly anyone out on a 70 degree day on a Sunday afternoon and frankly it did not even feel safe. I did not even make it to Broad street and I turned around and left back to Delaware feeling no interest in returning. Philly is destroyed , NYC destroyed, DC destroyed== me PISSED as these where all favorite places for me to walk and explore. People need to wake up to what liberalism is doing to our cities or all is lost.

You are incorrect. Philly and NYC are not destroyed. Still lots of other good areas. Do you actually visit New York these days? Los of busy gentrifying areas…..Also have you ever visited a real destroyed part of America? Take a trip to St. Louis, Memphis and rural Arkansas. Those areas have suffered from population decline. You almost never see people on the streets and they have higher crime rates than the east coast
