What you noticed about the hospital is incredibly normal. I would say most UK hospitals I've worked at are like that.

Fair enough, the only hospitals I have experience with are Bournemouth, Poole, Salisbury & Eastbourne which are nothing like this so it was a surprise to me regardless.

@@haribokart I was a medical student at both Bournemouth and Salisbury so I can see what you mean about those. But Southampton, Cambridge, a bunch of London hospitals, Chelmsford, Colchester all have what look look like modern shopping areas next to old buildings - because that's basically what they are.

@@SamOwenI Yes I didn't disbelieve you. Bournemouth is the most wonderful hospital though, treat me so well!

@@haribokart oh really. I liked it as a med student too - we used to get free lunch on Fridays! I wonder if they still do that.

Every fucking town looks the same! It's ridiculous! I'm trying to make my serious considerations returning to the UK after almost 15 years, and there's just nothing there. I was google street viewing towns like Grantham, Lincoln, Bristol, Reading, and they all look exactly like Southampton. Of course, the very first shops I see, usually several of each: Barber shops, Vape shops, Nail salons. What is going on...

When it comes to shops you're right. For variety and more independents you'd need to look at creative cities like Brighton or much smaller towns. It's a shame.
