Manila’s “Home for the Golden Gays” was among the few brick-and-mortar care facilities for the elderly LGBTQ community in the Philippines. However, when the facility closed more than a decade ago, most of its elderly residents were left homeless and struggling in their final years. The surviving Golden Gays are now trying to build a new permanent centre for themselves and future members. The group has been accepting donations from sponsors, but they insist on performing in drag in shows of appreciation.

I cant stop smiling and a bit teary eyed while watching… these people are genuinely happy with their lives! They dont have much, they dont have THE 100% support of the society but i believe they are much happier than most of us! Hello, naiingit ako sa inyo dahil masaya kyo, di tulad ko nakatira ako sa pamilya ko pero ang trato nila sa akin parang ibang tao lagi akong malungkot kc bagamat pamilya ko sila parang iba ako. 75 yrs old na ako, ako ang nagaasikaso sa sarili ko, sa pagkain ko at sa lahat para sa sarili ko, pagod na ako, minsan umiiyak na lang ako at nagdarasal sa panginoon na wag niya akong pababayaan. This is so heartbreaking for filipino elderly who’ve dreamed about owning a permanent home until the end of their time. I hope & pray that one of this days there’s going to be a good philanthropist that can offer them roof over their heads. Being gay is really tough cuz most human beings don’t understand how these people feels. Please Golden Gays be strong for yourselves. Depression hits them really hard. PTSD!!!
