A South Korean zoo has thrown a farewell party for Fu Bao, the first giant panda born in the country. The four-year-old cub is scheduled to be sent back to China in April 2024 and must go into isolation for a one-month, pre-trip quarantine.

Just like xiangxiang, fubao has to return. But her story with Korea will always be kept in people's and her hearts. It is sad she has to leave the place where she was born and raised. But think from another perspective, Korea used social media to draw the unparalleled attention on pandas, which really makes us focus on fubao. But every year pandas return to China, which in some way makes us less focus on their stories due to less exposure on social media. Fubao is a special symbol of the influence of social media, and her role in it makes us sympathize more. She will be taken care of in Sichuan, but she needs time to adapt. But she can do it in the end. One thing about domesticated pandas is that they will think where they live is all their world, much like the cavemen back then. But just like xiangxiang, fubao will see a much bigger world when she returns. Her angle will be widely opened, and her mind can expand. Hope she will smile when if she can retrace back the time in Korea. Jiang and Song will send their daughter away that day that was raised up by them. A mixed feeling is waiting for them. Bitter and sweet.

A group of pandas from Japan recently returned to China as well - the children because they were 4 years old and the parents because they are now retiring after having 13 (I think) offspring. Groups of fans from Japan visit China every month to see them in Cheng Du - think that's where they retired to - and I've no doubt fans from Korea will do the same. Hopefully we'll see her new husband and follow her as she raises her own family.

LeLe will be returning, mum and dad are staying in Singapore. However a group of pandas from Japan returned to China to a well deserved retirement (after having 13 offspring) but there are still the youngest ones in Japan. Meanwhile groups of their fans travel once a month to China to visit mum and dad.

Agree. Fubao gets a little spoiled and hard to survive in the wilderness. What I have noticed that Although pandas in China don’t get pampered like Fubao in Korea , they are tougher and trained to survive in wilderness. China trains pandas to survive on their own in the wilderness. Eventually pandas need to go back to live in forests that are their true natural living environments.
