Southend Pier - New Electric Trains and Old Diesel Trains

We took a brief trip down to the local famous landmark that we very rarely actually visit, to try out the fancy new trains. They're still using one of the old ones as well so we ended up having a go on both so we could compare the experience.
Southend Pier is the world's longest pleasure pier at 1.33 miles in length. The railway runs the full length with stations at the shore and pier head, and a passing loop half way down. We rode the train each way but many people choose to walk.

Thanks for showing us! I'm 70 now, and last went on an older train when I was about 10! Bad to hear the pub burnt down, and because compared to other piers, this one really has nothing to actually SEE when you get to the end of it! Some have had a circus. I think I remember such things, but don't remember if it was here or not. But the council really does need to buck it's ideas up a bit. Fantastic that the pier is the longest, and at last, the new trains have some DESIGN to them. It almost feels as if the public should bring a suitcase, and, at the end of the pier, get a bouncy castle out of it!

I was there a couple of weeks ago and both of the new trains were out of service with only Sir William Heygate running.
