We have a 40kg plus choc lab ( yes we are working on his weight ). He is obsessed with sniffing. Weve watched lots of videos of Southend Dogtraining and try to copy all we see regarding pulling etc. To put it into practise around our roads is just so hard. He simply pulls even more because of the area its like his sniffing ground. Should i practise away from our stomping ground & then let him have a good sniff when we get to his main wee wee area?

Thank you. You answered a question I've had about differentiating between the training collar when I want him (6 month old lab/retriever mix) at my side (like in dog friendly shops) and when we're just taking casual strolls. I've been switching between the training collar and the buckle collar.

I wouldn’t recommend it without a professional dog trainer

Is there a certain slip lead that you recommend? The ones I have tried have come loose, and my dog slips out. Thanks

We use “Ancol Slip Lead” 8mm from Amazon
@southenddogtraining121 күн бұрын
If the lead slipping from the top of the head, this normally happens when we are pull back rather than pulling up. If you are pulling up the stopper on the lead isn’t very good

@@southenddogtraining1 I will give the ancol slip lead a go! I have been pulling up, but also the dog may have been walking infront of me.

Never use a slip lead for training. Just another abusive gadget. The damage done to a dogs neck by these leads is shocking. Absolutely not needed if you teach positive reinforcement. People are so gullible because they see instant response but this is not training. He is not listening to the trainer he is associating this with pain and shuts down. No dog can be trained in one session, you have been hoodwinked if you believe this guy. Train without pain is the way to go.

This is simply not true.

A couple small corrections with a slip lead or a prong collar (used correctly) does far less damage than constantly tugging and pulling on a regular collar for a much longer period of time. This also works well for high prey drive and sporting dogs who need a little more handle focus.

Nonsense. All living thinking beings learn through BOTH reinforcement and correction. So silly to pretend otherwise due to (cult) ideology. Watch how animals behave in nature, rather than spewing made up pseudo-science

You clearly don’t know anything, look at the video. The dog is happy and comfortable and definitely not in pain, where as if you were To put a standard collar on it and start dragging back (by the sounds of it that is what the owners used to do) then yes you might hurt the dog.
