Glad that you got to see much of Namibia despite having lost so much time. Enjoy summer in the UK and then come back to sunny South Africa :)

I really enjoyed the video of your trip in Southern Africa in particular Namibia. It is an area I have wanted to visit for a long time and your route is one we will follow. We have an ex-military Defender Tdi 130 Command post which we are converting to a camper. Watching your travel log has given us the confidence to tackle the same trip. Thank you very much and looking forward to following more of your travels.

Just go for it. How do you plan to get the vehicle down there? It sounds a bit large to go into a container.

@@defendermodsandtravels Thanks and you are right about just going for it! It will have to go on a Ro-Ro ship as I don't think it will fit in a Hi-Cap container, although it will be close. I believe the costs have shot up since COVID.

@@alansheach3528 Shipping costs have increased. Where aree you shipping to? I can't recommend Cape Town since the delays are terrible. If you do Ro-ro you need to be very careful. Some companies and some countries require the vehicle to go empty which is useless for overlanding. Security is always a worry. High cube containers are only available in 40' size and are expensive. Good luck and have the attitude of overcoming the hurdles.

Thank you for sharing I have been enjoying all your videos even though some of the technical ones loose me a bit on the land rovers but keep them coming.

Yeah the technical videos aren't really for general viewers but for those who want to understand the underlying theory. Skip those.

@@defendermodsandtravels I love the technical videos for the engineer's point of view. Currently I am in the process of a completly nuts & bolt rebuilding my beloved 2007 Puma since a year and a half. In my opinion, unfortunately, at a certain point in time, engineers were no longer involved in the construction of Defender. When I show you some pictures of horrible places I found with corrosion and hidden dirt, you know what I'm talking about. An important keyword is "galvanic cell" which did tremendous damage to my 15 year old Defender. Anyone who has attended the second semester at a technical college knows what I am talking about. So, please Bill, let the technical videos come🙂

Very nice itinerary you did through Namibia. Could have made a bit more effort with the pronunciation of the town and place names.
@defendermodsandtravels

I did apologise about the pronunciation up front to avoid offending people like you, apparently unsuccessfully. I don't speak Afrikaans and don't know anyone here to guide me. What to do?

I did miss your apology early in the video. Otherwise would not have made the comment. PS. You don't need to speak Afrikaans, just copy a sound. Anyone in Namibia could have helped you with that.

@@big5astra I did the route commentary when I got back and no one around here in rural Suffolk to help me. If this was a professional video I'd have had resources to assist me.

Very enjoyable to follow along! Some of my friends are in Botswana right now doing what you are planning to do. When finished with this trip they are leaving their truck (converted LR 130 military ambulance) in storage for more travels next year. My wife and I are preparing to spend a year in the southern third of Africa with our Defender roadster (long story!) with an Aussie camper trailer in '25/'26. Keep up the good videos and many thanks!

A year!! Wow that is serious travel. I hope it comes off and let us know your progress. When I finish with southern Africa the plan is to ship to South America for a tour there. By then I think the Defender will be worn out and will need to come home for some serious work.

Did you find a nice wine pairing for the bugs?
@defendermodsandtravels

I wanted a pinotage but my partner thought sauvignon blanc would go better. In the end we compromised on some excellent SA cider. If Bill Gates had his way we'd all be eating bugs.
