I remember when i was in the Army Reserve in NY in 87 we went on our 2 week training at Fort Indian Town Gap and the guys in mu platoon kept saying the line "This is our home and nobody done fuck with us"....as soon as I got back home I rented this at the video store.....only guy I remember from that unit was my platoon sergeant SSGT Larry Komenda...i was only with them a year and then moved to Honolulu...

Terrific film. Were cajuns offended by their portrayal in this? The trailer makes it seem they're cannibals or something.

Personally as one. I was delighted to see this movie. Shows how we truly react to change.
@NauticElk5 жыл бұрын
And we're not cannibals. Cajuns are portrayed as the scum of the United states. But only because the US wants us to conform. We thrive off of tradition. In which no one will take away.
@ronaldh84464 жыл бұрын
@@NauticElk - I'd hope the Cajun community wouldn't have been offended by this movie. I felt only disgust for the Guardmen's early actions which is what incites the whole conflict. Greetings from NYC!

No semblance of cannibalism whatsoever, in the movie. Took one smart ass to set them off, and boy, did he fuck it up for everyone else.. Watched this when it came out in 1981, as a teen. Soundtrack by Ry Cooder, a wonderful bonus.

if it had at least one star in the roles (say Kurt Russel, Dennis Quaid, James Woods, Mickey Rourke..) I bet it would've done decent sized box-office, but it starred all unknowns, good actors but none a box-office draw.

What evidence is there in the film for it being set in 1973 as Wiki says, or indeed any year save the one it was made in?
@leonmita7242 жыл бұрын
Who cares?
@Spectrescup Жыл бұрын
Because it was written in 1976, just after the war had ended, concerned training recruits for fighting in hostile, 'jungle' terrain and was a very obvious metaphor for the war as a whole.
