Hi Andy. My name is Paul and I'm a huge fan of your playing and your channel. Best instructional flat picking channel out there in my opinion, and I've seen a lot of them. I just wanted to comment on how much I love this particular post. I think you may have discovered the best way to present instructional material with this format. Being able to watch one musician show another how to play a tune is perhaps the best way for another player to learn it simultaneously. The natural interaction between student and teacher adds a key element that you just can't get from a talking head walking you through the chords and melody of a song. Watching Dan pick it up and put it together was an inspiring element that made me feel like I was part of the process. I have watched hundreds, if not thousands of instructional videos on KZbin, and while watching this all that I could think was, "This is how it should be done!" Brilliant. Ok, just my two cents. I hope you will consider making more videos like this in the future. I'll eat them up. Cheers and thanks for all the videos.

I've thought about doing that kind of thing before. It's really a rare person who would be a live student and have their mistakes out in public. Of course, Dan is really an advanced performing guitar player, so he picks stuff up faster than most students. Great idea, though. Maybe we can do more of these, if I can get him to stop by again

What you have done here is show openly the process of learning, a technique few would attempt! Wow! Thanks!!!!

Fun to play with someone who can pick up songs quickly. That's a nice tune that allows for some cool turn arounds.

That is a brilliant way of teaching ,the way they done it 100 year ago , thats how i learned guitar , i can't believe how good that Kentucky mandolin sounds, what model is that? Have you tweaked it somehow?❤👍

I'm squeezing every bit of tone possible out of that thing! It's a KM162. When you get a good Kentucky, they can really be an overacheiving instrument. It has a new bridge and schaller tuners.

What chords do you play on the walk down? I play G to B with the F# in the bass to Em.
@mandohat10 ай бұрын
That's probably right. I was doing a d/f#

Andy, That one chord is always an issue of debate with that song. Everyone does it different. Most people just walk the G note down F" to Em while still holding a G chord as Dan did at first. I don't think the guys in Bill Monroe's band even knew what it was. I used to play the D/F# until a friend showed me it with a B7 Rather than D/F# and it actually sound's right to me, and if you think about it, it makes perfect sense because the B7 has an F# in it also. Try that and tell us what you think.

Bill Monroe, from my understanding, played the song and expected you to "get it" without explanation. If your chords were "okay" to his ears, you moved on. If not, he would play it again until you did. Good job!
