While I believe Shakespeare can be modernized, and in many cases new meanings can be developed by doing so, do you have any evidence that this was personally his intent? The only thing that comes to mind for me atm is that "how many ages hence..." quote from Julius Caesar which doesn't really count, but I'm not a Shakespeare scholar so maybe he said so once and I just don't know about it
