The more I see this layout the more inspired and simply in awe I am. Find new details all the time. One great layout, one of the best in the world.

Excellent scenery on this layout! Especially the foliage / trees. The ivy climbing up the retraining wall next to the track A+!

Great layout & a great video to go with it. The filming gives it a lot of railroad realism to the operation. In a few weeks I will have the very first phase of my permanent layout of my N scale Pacific West Coast model railroad operating my Amtrak Coast Starlight, the Southern Pacific Morning Daylight excursion train pulled by number 4449, a Santa Freight & a Southern Pacific freight will be included in my layout. I have already scratched built the diesel locomotive shop, 3 sanding towers, 4 railroad water towers, diesel fuel storage tanks, an oil tank for the GS4 locomotive number 4449, a town water tower.

Reminds me of Ouray, Colorado. I enjoyed the ride, very prototypical. • Cheers from Michigan

Is it just me, or did the Chewaucan River loose a "B" unit after the second half of the trip. It started the climb to the summit with an A-B-A setup, then after the helper was cut off, the train made it down the other side with an A-A setup. Awesome layout and nice vid none the less.
@billr9919 жыл бұрын
+Eric “Chugwater” Jordan Right you are Eric. The "B" unit failed and had to be set out. Fortunately it was all downhill from the point of failure to Lakeview.

So impressed. Love the meet ups and the side mounted camera as if leaning out a train window. Would love to see a behind the scenes of how it was done. I almost made it out there over the Xmas holiday. Can you run your own locos on that layout? The layout is by far the best. I just visited the chicago museum of industry and transportation and while very impressive the Greely freight museum looks so much more detailed. I would love to see a big boy or y6b blowing stream coming past kalamath falls.

Thanks Eric. Glad you enjoyed it. Museum volunteers who have a certain number of volunteer hours are allowed to operate their own equipment on designated days. More details on volunteer opportunities are available at: www.gfsm.org

The Chewauken River is a river in the OC&E area, but I don't think there ever was a train with that name. The passenger cars are all Walthers cars and the express cars are Walthers and BLI. Some of the Walthers cars are foobies, that is the SP never had them on its roster or service. They are names as close as possible to real cars and lightly weathered. As Bill noted the era is the early 1950s before there was a significant decline in passenger traffic. We put together a long train because we could.

If I am correct the kind of camera used on the closeup shots where the Southern Pacific PAs turn on curves is a finger cam correct?
@billr9917 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by "finger cam". I used a Mobius Action Cam. This camera has a detachable lens and optical sensor assembly that can be located remotely from the camera body using an eight inch long extension cable. The lens and optical sensor were positioned on a specially fabricated flexible lens mount near the front of the flatcar that carried the camera.

i am interested in knowing how two steam locomotives pull a train? i ask because today we have computers and other electronics to help the engineer where as then they did not.
@billr99110 жыл бұрын
Basically the same way that two people pull on one rope. People communicate when to start and stop by talking; steam locomotives used whistle signals. One person may be able to pull harder than another, but it doesn't matter -- they both add to the effort. Same with locomotives.
