This 6 chime is without a doubt, the best whistle the 4449 had ever used, even though many others prefer the 3 chime more than the 6 chime and the 5 chime (from a scrapped CB&Q M4 2-10-4 locomotive) from the early 90s. Speaking of which, I’m not sure where the 5 chime whistle is located, but I hope that this particular whistle won’t be stolen, not like the 6 chime has. Back to the 6 chime, when the video ends, there appears to be an editing error showing a video inside the cab of ATSF 2926. Perhaps that can be easily fixed by trimming that part out using KZbin Studio. That is, on your Mac or PC. I hope you understand what I’m saying here, and I hope you don’t delete this video of this incredible sound collection of this awesome sounding whistle.

That 5 chime was owned by Skip Gage, of Florida. Nobody currently knows where the whistle is located, since his unfortunate passing.

If anyone does find the whistle, I hope that it’ll be used once again.

SP 6 was found and fitted to ATSF 2926 for testing before shipping to her rightful place on 4449

That’s incredible to hear. I wish I could say the same for Skip’s CB&Q 5 chime from 1992.

That ending bit wasn't really a mistake. While 2926's whistle was being restored, the crew actually came across 4449's six chime, which had been found. For her short runs in 2021, she proudly wore that six chime, and blew it for all it was worth! Hope it gets back to 4449, especially since it was stolen from her in the first place!

Would love to hear another SP 6 Chime mounted on 4449 in the 2nd whistle position. At 300 psi on superheated steam, it just sounds awesome!
@fleetwoodvo867310 ай бұрын
It's not the PSI or superheat- this specific whistle is just quirky! The highest-pitched bell is getting too much air. Idk if this whistle is broken, or modified, or what. There's an old recording of SP 4460 in service with a 6 chime, and it sounds just like an SP 6 chime always does.
@ilikeminecraftgaming93315 ай бұрын
That would be cool!Then she could still keep the Hancock 3 chime.(Which I also love on her.)
@E89drummerE394 ай бұрын
@fleetwoodvo8673 Superheated steam vs saturated steam absolutely changed the pitch and tambre of whistles, as does psi. 4449 is 300psi 4460 is 260psi. The recordings of 4460 don't sound very normal at all. It often overblows and squeals. Even at 260 psi 4460s whistle sounds a little higher pitch than other engines at 200-2010 psi for example. Similar to a cab forward at 250psi.
