To answer your question on the whereabouts of both of these venerable F-units (it's good to note that both units are operational): Sometime in the mid-90s, SOU 3496 was sold off to RJ Corman (renumbered as 1941) in Kentucky for use on Office Car Specials and their dinner train operation (known as "My Old Kentucky Dinner Train"). After staying on the Southern Railway's roster well into 1987 (pulling excursion trains and seeing occasional use on executive specials), SOU 3499 was leased to the New Georgia Railroad (in Atlanta) for excursions. When operations ceased in 1994 (with most of its assets liquidated), the FP7A ended up on the (nearby) Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad; where it was renumbered 6147.

The 3496&3497 went to R J Corman and the 3498&3499 went to Stone Mountain.
