Southern right whales are returning to former whaling grounds to breed 🐋 | ABC Australia

Fowlers Bay is geographically isolated, 1000 kilometres from Adelaide, on the edge of the Nullarbor, an hour and a half from the largest nursery for southern right whales in Australian waters, Head of Bight.
Whalers killed at least 66 whales in the calm waters of Fowlers, with records of catches in the early 1840s and by 1844 there were few remaining.
The gentle giants have taken 160 years to come back and more are returning each year.

Seeing the mama and baby whales at Fowlers Bay earlier this year was an amazing and overwhelming experience, and I will, like the beautiful whales, return next year. Thinking about the old days of whaling, that those mamas were sitting ducks for the whalers is absolutely heartbreaking, and we should all be grateful and humbled that they have chosen to return

Whaling is stupid which we know, but we still log old growth forests which tree takes 500 years to grow which can't be replaced ... Yeah, how about we stop that stupidity too, k.
