When I do my greens, I always start with my water first and get that seasoned. I use salt, pepper, hot sauce, garlic salt, lemon pepper seasoning, onions if I have one or onion flakes sugar and butter and a ham hock. When I wash my greens, I do them one at a time and wash them very well, front and back. I don't wash them more than that and no, there's never any sand, dirt or any grit in my pot when I'm finished cooking them. As I'm cleaning and cutting the stems out, I am tasting my water to make sure that it is seasoned how I like it. After I am done cutting the stems out of the leaves, I just tear them by hand and put them in the boiling water. I cook my greens for about 45 minutes and they're always tender cooking them that long.

Ok Mrs.Judy I love how this is going so far but I have never seen my grandmother or mother wash greens using a tiny bit of dishwashing detergent. I have seen them just wash them with water and soak them in salt. New one on me maybe thats why you have to wash them so much to get the detergent off of them. But love the rest of the video

Dishwashing detergent is used to remove pesticides.

Why not chop up the stems instead of removing them? I got turnip greens going crazy in my raised bed and now I know how to cook them! I checked, and wow! my turnip greens look very different from these. These look tender - like lettuce - and mine are deep,dark green, and crinkled, with frilly edges.
@cookingwithjudycaldwell63764 жыл бұрын
You can but it takes longer to cook if you chop the stems up in the greens and these greens are baby tender turnup greens they are so tender it does not take long to cook about maybe one hour👌
