My family moved to Brunswick when I was a senior in high school. Did part of my senior year at Glynn Academy. I came from a small town in nowhere Ohio. Was a major change for me. There is so much more to Brunswick and the islands than this video shows. This is just the south side of Brunswick, which is where Glynn academy is. I was surprised you didn't get that on camera.

The problem is they WONT unless they gentrify the area and move out all the black people. Which would be a situation where a lot of people in mid town will have to move into public housing on MLK BLVD (which would only make the projects more dangerous) and DIXVILLE which is arguably THE MOST dangerous hood in Brunswick. Every time gentrification happens like that, it makes crime go up and already bad hoods REALLY BAD. So i honestly rather the city NOT get involved in fixing up these houses...If anything create a program where poor people can get loans to hire people to fix their houses OR (in a perfect world) the city would just help them out WITHOUT forcing them to move and buying the property. Because most of the time when they gentrify it's forced removal and they give the people like $2,500 and tell them good luck which is absurd.

Everyone we're getting a Buc'ees. Best gas station/food/bathrooms you can find anywhere right here in Brunswick. I moved here from Virginia (originally NY) & I LOVE Brunswick. Quiet town but getting more crowded every day as car dealerships & other big companies are moving here (locals told me). Schools are not the best, but beaches, islands, trails, camp sites, you name it awaits. We did get a bit of hurricane Helene, but we only lost power for 4 days & food. If you're not a troublemaker 😂, & you have a job in place, then I recommend it.

I’m originally from Brunswick. A number of those run down homes were not run down in the ‘80s and ‘90s during my youth. When I went to visit Brunswick a couple of years ago I was shocked at how some of the neighborhoods had gone downhill.
@Ajxni10 ай бұрын
That's typically how the hood goes. Most black neighborhoods in america that used to thrive in the 70s and 80s slowly got worse over the decades and the city will not do anything about it unless they want to forcibly remove hundreds of people into the projects and worse neighborhoods which would only make crime go up drastically. If those neighborhoods get gentrified by the city it would really be bad for black people there. I'd like to see more of these rich black people to buy neighborhoods like this and fix it. Then they have the choice to either help the residents live and make the neighborhood better or be like the rich white people and move all the black people out in even worse impoverished area and make it more concentrated....then complain when violent crime starts to rise.

And, I tell fellow blacks that assuming the role of a victim is self-defeating. But that doesn't change the reality of what has, and continues to occur against black and brown people in this country.
