I met some of Southern University’s band at a Zaxby’s in Saraland, AL while they stopped on the way back home to eat. Wonderful young people to talk to, and one told me to check out their performance, so here I am! Awesome performance and a bunch of classy band members!

That intro was POWERFUL, Southern already has some great writing, but that was something really special. Both Crank the Juke Up and Back End were also just cranking, truly the best band in the SWAC

Every time I hear them, I am brought back to my childhood and my hometown of New Orleans, LA. I remember all of the Mardi Gras seasons, the Bayou Classic Battles of the Bands, and the Bayou Classic Football Games I grew up enjoying LONG BEFORE Hurricane Katrina. I was on the 3rd row at center court and SU was head and shoulders louder and more crisp than any band that faced our direction. Out of all the bands JSU and SU were clearly the best 2 bands in the building, I wish I could be on the side that JSU played too also.

There will come a day, hopefully in the near future, when people will realize that there is no need to host a battle of the bands outside of football season to showcase the unmatched marching and sound spectacle that is the Southern University Human Jukebox. There is over 50 years worth of footage available on the internet for all to enjoy free of charge at any time. BOTB's like this are such a waste of time and they send the wrong message to students. Marching Band is not, has never been and should never be thought of, as a year round activity. Football, basketball, baseball, golf, hockey, soccer, swimming, all of these have seasons. No band can outmarch Southern, in the rain, snow or sunshine, end of story.
