Absolutely, I can't cook a meal every night of the week, simply too busy, and sometimes you just can't be bothered, so it's much easier to just do a ping meal(microwave), some people huh 🙄😁

I was going to say the same thing about us in the UK I have always bought the cake kits and cookie kits like Betty crocker etc for my daughters to make as an activity at weekends or school holidays, we also have kraft shells & cheese & that is so good, inexpensive & saves your backside as a quick lunch

It’s always hilarious to me when people say “Americans all/always/never…” hold on do you mean all 330 million of us? Something (statistics and basic logic) tells me that you’re wrong. It’s also borderline xenophobic but ya know…bless their heart indeed.

The whole thing about the cooking kits is so silly to me! I’m from Ireland and here we use little kits like that for baking and dare I say I feel stupidly proud after I make one right lol and I know a few others in my life who feel the same. Feel how you might about America in terms of politics, laws etc. but you can’t just turn around and speak for every person of such a large country

My mom worked and my stepdad never taught me to cook. I actually was afraid of the kitchen for decades. I still have anxiety there if anyone watches me cook, but I am learning to cook finally at 50. Thank you for encouraging people to try what can be very intimidating. I have to remind myself, it’s not hard, it’s just new. Love you Mary. ❤️

Just a interesting side note...my niece went to a high school that offered culinary classes for major and that box mac and cheese is what they started with. Teacher said if you cannot make this than this class may not be for you 😳 The point was teaching how long to cook the pasta as 1st lesson

"BLESS YOUR HEART" You are so funny! Your jewelry, pink top, hair and apron are marvelous! Instant boxes of mac and cheese have always been my daughters favorite and so convenient when you're not up to preparing a big meal. And you can serve a vegetable like peas or brocolli on the side.

Mary, thank you for being so positive, and for talking about food snobbery. It really is a problem. A lot of people can't afford fresh ingredients, don't have access to them, or don't have the time or skill to make things from scratch. And it's really awful to try to make people feel bad for that.

Omg, you Americans definitely know how to cook! I am dreaming off visiting the US to taste all those wonderful stuff, especially the cakes - "Green Fried Tomatoes" (is that the English title of the movie???) is one of my fav films and I crave all the delicious stuff they prepare in the Whistlestop Café. The only problems for us Europeans is transforming the recipes because the ingredients are hard to get here. Besides that if you are a working mum or dad you sometimes are effin happy if you can just open a box and feed your lot. Of course we Europeans always go out to the fields, pick our organic veggies, then quickly slaughter our cow and then prepare a 4 course meal for the family every day. I know the world would be a better place if we'd all do, but sorry, I am human, busy and sometimes LAZY. So, all the Stepford Wifes outside there: I love you, I admire you but just let us desperate housewives/housemen be, please! PS: I am soooo jealous about the American lidls! I am German, come on, the mother of Lidl - and yours over the pond are WAY BETTER! PPS: The patterns of the parchment paper after having beloved the strawberries looks like a piece of art! Love you and your humour!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

once I was told cooking food from those food subscription boxes is not cooking. I cut, cooked, stirred, baked every ingredient from scratch in that kit. the only thing I didn't do was go to the store and get the ingredients myself. so like.... apparently what makes it cooking is apparently to do with the gathering of the ingredients rather than prepping and applying heat.

In what way is making boxed cookie mix not baking? You’re doing literally the exact same thing as you would be making cookies from scratch, but with a couple less steps. It’s just the dry ingredients already mixed. I have a couple easier cake recipes (all from scratch) and I am baking when I make those just as much as when I make a 3 layer whole cake affair.

As a mom of a special needs child convenience is key. Although I do cook every day.... I generally will take one day off and make something that you just throw together like frozen pizza... or a meal that comes in a kit/box... or that requires dumping multiple cans into a crock pot turning it on and forgetting about it. It's sad that people judge one another without knowing them. You never know what people are going through and sometimes those kits are cheaper than buying all of the ingredients to make it yourself. With the inflation and these crazy prices and sometimes lack of supply.... You have to get what you can get. You handled that one well 👏 👌

I was born and raised in Poland and often my family and friends would buy deli croquettes, instant powdered soups and frozen pierogi instead of making them from scratch (unless it would be a special ocassion like Christmas), now I live in Portugal and here my husband's family buys frozen lasagnas, instant mashed potatoes and codfish casseroles. People need to stop acting like kits and premade foods are an American thing, we certaintly do it in Europe all the time.

Love you, Mary. Agree with everything you said. Kits are easy, especially when you're busy and don't have time to stand in the kitchen for hours and hours. Lots of people in the US know how to cook from scratch, and lots of people don't, and that's totally ok. These muddy buddies look delicious, and if you can ever find the time (or anyone else!), get out here to the Pacific Northwest - you'll find we have TONS of delicious local cuisine that highlights the bounty of this area of the US. Oh, and I just realized last week my aunt has the same bowls as you!

hey mary! greetings from australia! i really resonate with your discussion on food kits- as someone who lives with family members afflicted with degenerative mobility disorders it can be a real life saver and a great way to keep shreds of your independence when it comes to preparing your own food. people are just purists when it comes to food, which is incredibly unhelpful to police the way people choose to eat!! i love your videos mary and i may have to try this recipe! :)

I'm British; our country has convenient baking and 'pre-prepped' meal boxes. I always make sure to have a few boxes in the cupboard for convenience and to ensure my 6-year-old daughter feels included when she joins me in the kitchen. It's an excellent way for her to assemble and mix ingredients independently, making her feel like a valuable helper. These types of kits are widely available all over Europe, so it's unfair for anyone to make comments starting with 'it's sad that Americans can't...' as it just seems like an attempt to assert their own superiority. It makes me wonder why they feel the need to do that?

Omg I didn't realize puppy chow was a regional name! Haha I remember in school my friend was scared to try it because she thought I was trying to trick her into eating dog food

My dad was also in the navy, so we moved around a lot as well and your absolutely right about the food, I’m 51 now and ended up in California, but I gotta say out of the many states we moved around in growing up, my favorite was Camp Lejeune North Carolina, which I believe is in Jacksonville. Had the best times when we lived in N.C. 👍🏻

I hadn't heard of dish by either name before viewing the shop-with video, so I'm not sure what they call it here. I have had those "haystack" candies made with white chocolate and chow mein noodles.

I was born and raised in the south, but my family is from upstate New York so I call it puppy chow. For some reason, that's just better than muddie buddies 😆

I grew up in NC and the Midwest equally and we always called it Puppy Chow and now that I think about it, sounds gross. 😄

The sounds of your talking, stirring the Chex with the powdered sugar and then the strawberries on the paper was wonderful! I would love it if you did a video with more strawberries!
