I’m so very glad I had ear plugs when I saw them. It was life altering. At first the sheer voluminous sound and low tones surround you. Feeling it all over your body. First I laughed a little at the absurdity of heaviness. Then it clicked in. I felt introspective. I felt alive. My eyes welled up with the feeling of isolation and comfort. I was alone in myself, surrounded by others seemingly in the same or similar state. The sound vibrated my entire being. I felt alive and so comfortable. Like one amazing and sustained hug. The album is an amazing meditation tool. And if you get the chance, see them live! And for god sakes, bring ear plugs AND over ear headphone style ear protection. It will NOT ruin the experience. You WILL hear and feel every moment.

@jonathanhenderson94224 жыл бұрын
Funny, but this doesn't come close to testing the limits of a good sub. You haven't heard sub-bass in music until you've heard a pipe organ with a 64' pipe that gets down to 8hz. At that point you no longer hear anything, you just feel it vibrate your soul.
@whiteninja20064 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanhenderson9422 Have you seen Sunn O))) live yet? There is much more rumbling and low end frequencies going on than on the record, I dare say it'll vibrate your soul in the same way. Just like a Pipe Organ, it's something that won't come across on the record unless you hear it live. Other than that, you're correct though, the lowest pipe of a Pipe Organ is truly something to behold.
@jonathanhenderson94224 жыл бұрын
@@whiteninja2006 Not seen them live, but I can believe they could do sub-bass live. Not sure why they wouldn't do it on the albums, though. Even if you can't get the equipment to do it naturally it can be done fairly easily digitally without sounding artificial.
@whiteninja20064 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanhenderson9422 Not quite sure tbh, I'm not a trained audio engineer. That said, we did actually try a Sunn O))) track at my friends house to test his subwoofer (along with many other tracks, many of them classical), and it did manage to set off car alarms in the neighbourhood... from the third floor! And without us even noticing it due to the volume! The vibrations are certainly there on record, but it all boils down to the equipment I suppose.
@jonathanhenderson94224 жыл бұрын
@@whiteninja2006 You could just run tracks through a frequency analyzer to see what frequencies they reach. Very few commercial subwoofers can deliver sub-20Hz frequencies loud enough to be felt by anyone in the room, much less outside of it.

@@The1stMrJohn it was pretty incredible. I think they may have been rather limited by the venue, because they actually weren't as loud as i thought they'd be, but I'm still glad i wore ear protection for sure. But even if they weren't incredibly loud, their sound is so overwhelmingly powerful that it really does put you into kind of a trance. After they had been on for maybe 5 or 10 minutes (during which time you couldn't even see them onstage because the fog was so thick) i noticed that i couldn't keep my mouth closed, and maybe halfway through the set i started to feel really tired; i had to keep resting my head either chin-on-chest style or hanging backwards over my shoulders; and there were a couple times where i felt like i could just fall asleep. It was honestly kind of draining, but in a good, relaxing way. Definitely the coolest live performance I've ever seen.

@@yellowsaurus4895 Sound amazing, I'm up for new experiences. I think Anthony Fantano from the music review site The Needle Drop said the same thing about his jaw! Maybe Have a look at the video where he describes his experience of seeing them live to see if it resonates with you😱😀 Cheers from Hampshire County (I'm near to city of Winchester, and not far from Stonehenge) in England
