Well I finally had a chance to get back out kayak fishing. This during my vacation at the Outer Banks of NC in July. I finally found a lauch out to the Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge and gave it a good try for whatever was biting!

Great video! Do you get your crabs from a tackle shop or do you find them? If so where so you find them?

do you usually hit these bridges at slack tide so you can stick in one place? I have a paddle kayak and tried it once to get bullied by the current
@SouthernReelsFishing Жыл бұрын
Not really. Moving water is always better for the Sheep bite. They seem to not bite near as much at slack tide.

Pfd? Its one thing when you're by yourself but you post.

I was wearing an inflatable pfd around my waist. I had a over the shoulder pfd as well, but it was so hot and calm that I was comfortable with the around the waist option.

hey Jesse, it figures I would be in Maryland when you come to my hometown. Hoping to meet you one day. Nice catches and thank you for all the great contact.

Nice day in the shade. Were you seeing those fish on your livescope or no?
@SouthernReelsFishing Жыл бұрын
Not really. Occasionally I would see a mark or two. Everything I caught was on the bottom though.

Nice! Do you ever see any big sharks out there? I saw a bull at CBBT once and a few smaller bulls in the York. There are some big tigers on the sound side and I just wondered.
@specfever2 Жыл бұрын
I've seen a whale from the CBBT.

Indeed I do. Last year I was fishing the old Manns Harbor bridge and saw 2 sharks on my livescope right underneath my yak in only 15 ft of water. They were huge! Had to be al least 6 to 8 ft. I quickly moved on lol

Great to see you out on your kayak! I kind of miss your kayak trips but I know your charter business keeps you very busy. I have a question; do you provide kayak guided trips in Virginia waters? Just curious, anyway, take care and be safe.
@SouthernReelsFishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks! And no I really don't do any kayak guiding. I enjoy that time with close friends mostly. Or I just go solo

@SouthernReelsFishing You ever kayak troll? I was paddling back across the Chowan River at Arrowhead Beach today and decided I'd drop my jerk bait and crank bait back to see if anything lived in the middle (about a mile wide where I am) and sure as shit I hooked up a striper. 1. I didn't know striper were this far up the Chowan right now 2. I didn't know they'd be up top (maybe 6 feet as that's the advertised depth of the lure 3. I was glad to be right that trolling on a kayak was possible Think I'll drop a lure back every time I'm in transit now. The bass seem to be loving the blue gill/chartreuse color right now.
