Open deck broker here - 1. Just about 100% of the time they're posting the wrong origin/dest. - they don't want the customer or a truck they already booked to see it, double brokering, or some other sketchy reason. 2. CarrierAssure is garbage & is trying to eliminate owner ops - we use Highway & require inspections, but we'll take references instead of inspections & if you've hauled a bunch for us we consider that as good of a reference as any. 3. 99% of those carrier sales reps. you talk to are not actually trucking-smart, they're glorified call center/data entry workers at best. They also don't understand how much goes into open deck vs. van - a good flatbed broker doesn't get impatient with a driver asking questions, that's a good sign he knows what he's doing & gives enough of a shit to ask. I will say on the flip side - I end up sharing the same frustration with about 20% of my calls from people who didn't read the notes on the post or calling OVER & OVER seconds apart, I have a small team & we can't always keep up but we always call back.

100 miles on interstate? That’s 15 gallons of fuel? 2 hours of time. So $4 fuel is $60 in fuel one way. $25 hr is $50 an extra hundred you are going backwards. Plus not figuring wear, tear…

Robert, and Lita, I retired almost 25 years ago. No cell phones or computers. Most of the big truck stops had a tv with loads appearing on it. So you had to jump to a phone booth and hope you were the first to call. At least they had very good descriptions about the loads and equipment needed. And addresses for the pick up and delivery. But that was such a hit or miss proposition, that I finally leased out to a company and let their load brokers do all the work. And it was a 80% for me, 20% for the company. I actually made very good money for the time doing it that way. And if you got to one of the company terminals and wanted to fuel, you paid 3 cents a gallon over what it cost them to buy it. They also had hoses and soaps and brushes and if you had the time you could wash your truck. And how long ago was it? My last brand new truck was a long nose Freightliner super customized for the Mid America Truck Show, and I paid under 70 thousand for it!! And fuel was still well under a buck a gallon. Hang in there, keep on keeping on. When things seem the worst, give the poochies a hug. They will always love you and you are their hero. Take care. I am retired old Ron.

Yes i know they should be asking more questions to help the load to its destination by helping you guys but this is society know they all know how good you are at your work and realy on you to fall back on for all there short cumings. Sadly this is the way of the World know we live in the less you you have to do the more the one at the end has to do. and guess who that is the truck owner every time. Thank God here in Aus %99 of our loading is on pick one drop and as for me i travell Market runs all the times and from when i load to when i unload i now exactly where i am going. Times can be very harsh but when you can sleep when uinloading and sleep when loading means the rush is well woth it. It is never going to change when guys like you have all this knowledge and they need you for this.

You need to look in or consider going on with a big owner operator company or something use their numbers so you don't have to pay for that and then you know you get paid when the loads delivered there's no hassle or anything the money is automatically direct deposited and then they fight with the shippers if there's a discrepancy

I don’t know why you don’t lease your truck out to a bigger company for example, like Mercer with Dan, they find his loads. He has a choice to take them or not. You don’t have to worry about it and have a headache. All you have to do is pay the percentage of the lease fee surely that would save your headaches and bitching about the stupid ass brokers all the time. Just saying.😊
