Attorney's cost money and they make things even more expensive and time consuming. I'd do that as a last resort or not at all. Small claims court is much less expensive. However, making a few calls to the state agencies who monitor mechanical shops like BUREAU OF CONSUMER & FACILITY SERVICES would be a good start but takes time. This customer just needs to get his Chevy fixed of the items the other shop was supposed to do correctly and then just deal with the paperwork and collections and complaints.

What I don't understand is why was it even needed? You can buy all of those bolts and parts. You aren't paying for them out of pocket, it is going to be charged to the customer. I've worked semi professionally fixing stuff, but still kind of on the diy side, and it took a minute, but I learned, I am not paying for the parts, I don't need to be cheap. I don't raise the price of things, I just don't have to worry about buying an extra bolt or something small. When the customer is paying hundreds, $10 to $50 isn't what is going to hurt them, and in this case, would have saved them thousands probably.

Also, quick tip for the oil coolers/filter housings on those 1.4s, you don't need to pull the turbo like the service information wants you to. once you've got the converter off, just unbolt and remove the coolant pipe from the housing and you can sneak it out past the turbo at the right angle. saves a ton of time and headache on the off chance the turbo hasnt failed yet!

Wow, I have heard of bad dealership work but this takes the cake. I have a wonderful mechanic near me in Danbury, CT with a shop called Autotech and he is the most honest man I have ever met. It helps I used to work on my own car myself so I can understand him when he gets technical, and I occasionally still do some work on my car myself (just replaced the battery recently on a 2013 Subaru Legacy with 147,000 miles on it which he checked over and said I did a good job - which is really not that hard to do).I appreciate this channel watching another wonderful mechanic who is honest and does the right thing.
@2nickles647Ай бұрын
Quit blaming the dealership. Always remember it's the so called Technicians that give shops a bad name. Technicians sling a fancy code reader and fire the Canon. To many people use the word "getting a diagnostic" , they think plugging in a code scanner will tell them ALL of the problems they are having and the magic part will fix everything. Plus It's no different than going to the Parts store and have a Parts Store technician plug in the code reader. And they will tell you a magic part will fix it problems. Mind you it's a 18 year old kid from your yokle high school. Or some other person who doesn't know nothing about vehicles.

@@2nickles647 Actually, I have perfect evidence that more dealers are bad at service than good. For example, I know the second generation Subaru CVT linnetroic transmission has a bad soleniod that fails around 80K to 100K on many Subarus. Many friends have trouble with their transmissions in CT around that point for that very reason. When they take it in to dealers, they tell them that they need a new transmission costing $6000. I tell them to ignore the dealer, and go to my mechanic who knows this problem as well. The solenoid can be replaced for less than $1000, saving the customer $5000. I have saved four friends at work with this information because every time they go to a dealer (there are three of them in my area) they all have the same crap answer - replace the transmission. it is the wrong answer. I can give you more examples on more cars but you get the point. Some dealers may be fine, but many are not.

At that mileage it's probably the third engine at least 😅 We do plenty of those filter housings and cooler assemblies. They either leak like that one or push oil into the cooling system. The latter usually makes the customers freak out and they're glad when the repair is cheaper than they thought
@johnbragg2014Ай бұрын
I'm convinced that when some of your customers say "the other shop" they are in fact referring to the garage attached to their home, or perhaps the parking out front at the trailer park.

G'day Eric, the Dodgy Bros Garage rides again...no words to express my dismay to the quality of repairs to that car. Truly shonky backyard work. I like to say more but I better leave it at that...can't wait for part 2...😊
@nashsmith3005Ай бұрын
When they come in leaking that bad. Usually i have found its the turbo oil feed line. You just need to remove the heat shield to change. Its really easy and gives time for customers to save money for the oil cooler replacement. The cooler is probably leaking too though as they always do 🧐🤔

As a GM dealer mechanic, I’m shocked this car even “made it” to almost 200,000 miles. They are throw away cars.

@@HelmutHare BS. Other manufacturers can do so without making junk. It's just profit before quality with GM.
@shannoncoffey4298Ай бұрын
@@misterhat5823 Well, other manufacturers are building crap too. Look at Fords and Chryslers. I think the Japanese are building crap too. I just bought a used Accord and did not realize the v6s needed timing belt done every 100,000 miles. Why would a manufacturer purposely build in a $700 guaranteed maintenance requirement every 100,000 miles. I know they all did it but why. We are getting too complacent with our cars being thousand dollar money pits.
@shannoncoffey4298Ай бұрын
Another thing. This cylinder deactivation mechanism is a sure way to destroy an engine at an early age. All to comply with government fuel economy mandates.

Eleven Wheel Bearings would be my first choice for a band name. But I'm wondering exactly how many wheel bearings you need to get replaced - in a 6 year period - before it finally dawns on you that the real problem is not getting fixed.

I try to do basic work myself, but I feel fortunate to have a reputable local shop for bigger jobs out of my league. This is just terrifying and dangerous.
@greggc8088Ай бұрын
Seen a few out of round knuckles distort the bearing and eat them up. Maybe that happened before the butcher ate this one up? I agree on replacing the knuckle to be sure there's not a comeback.
