Southside Johnny isn't pop music, far from it! You can hear that blues sound undertone, coupled with that New Jersey shore sound, those horns. Also, he always seems to be singing to the music; around it, with many performers, their band is just there. Southside had an excellent production live. This is so much better than Bruce Springsteen's rendition, even if Springsteen wrote it. Southside Johnny needed to be better known. Google his "Don't Walk Away Renee." Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes are the poster children of what a live performance should be. The audience and band just seem to melt together and connect. This magic was difficult to catch in the studio.
