Beautiful! SouthWest is my FAVORITE airline! Those 'Sweet 'Taters' sure looked good and the new livery is Great as well (I'm sure glad they left a hint of that nice tan 'Sweet Potato' color scheme in there)! This company has the most polite flight crew and atmosphere I have ever experienced. At the same time they fly my favorite aircraft!

I love the older 737s. I especially remember flying on -100 and -200s as a kid. The engines on those were very loud! Workhorses of so many airlines.

This is an absolutely fabulous takeoff video! I love the terminal buildings as well as the air traffic control towers in the background before it hits the runway! And the takeoff itself is quite awesome too! Great job on this video! It got above those clouds pretty quick!

It is such a fantastic moment when you switch from ground to air. It feels weird when you land because your feet are tingly. One time when I was going to Disney World, the plane went into a 75 Degree left turn ( In the air of course ). I thought we were flipping over. It was AWESOME! Man those pilots are something.

It's a -300. That upward curve is a winglet. Most SW planes have them. You can tell it's a -300 by the pointed flap fairings and the extended engine pylon past the wing. Also the the -300 has vortex generators on the top of the wing, the -800 doesn't. :)

A few mistakes there. The name is Boeing, not Bowing, and it's a -300. Southwest does have -700s, but you can tell it's a Classic by looking at the pointed flap fairings and at the engine pylon, that extends further behind the trailing edge (back) of the wing. The Classic versions of the 737 can be retofited with winglets.

This is one of 122 737 classics still left in their fleet! Pretty much most of their 3H4 fleet has blended winglets added in, but quite a few like the 3Q8 doesn't!

They are beginning to accelerate the retirement of their 300 & 500 series aircraft. However they have over 150 -300 and just 23 -500 series aircraft. Their youngest -300 series aircraft aren't all that old, and they are being retrofitted with electronic flight decks to further match commonality with their huge number of -700 and small -800 sub-fleet. Whilst newer aircraft have a general shorter "lifespan", the older birds are much more durable and can be used for many, many years.
@NEFeldman
@NEFeldman 11 жыл бұрын
In this case a 737-3H4 to which is the only type of classics to receive the retrofitted wingets. The others such as the 3YO, 3AA,, 3Q8, and 5H4's don't and will be the first bunches to retire as the newer 7H4's, and 8H4's arrive. Also ones in the 77XX series are former Airtran jets which are all in the 700 series mostly delivered in 2002-2008!

I love flying. I'm getting my license right now, and if you're like me, then you want to fly all the time. Not to just get from point A to point B, but to experience the actual flight/atmosphere itself. I know a lot of people that fly just to fly, and not actually to get somewhere. It's not just commercial aviation either. The majority of flights that occur every day are general aviation flights.

The Classics can be retrofited with winglets, and this one clearly was. The reason the Classic 737s didn't have winglets is because Boeing wasn't aware of their advantages back in the 80s. An airline can choose to retrofit their airplanes with winglets if they so want.
@ZaneLiebrum

def. a -300 or -400, the canoes are sharper and wing is shorter. also note the age showing on the wing surface itself. and yes you can put winglets on the classics.

He's right. That is a -300. The NGs (-700/-800) have red flap tracks, and no engine pylon on the inboard wing. -300s do. And yes, the -900 has been flying for a while. 737 MAX comes around 2016, I believe. Great video btw.

That's a 737-800. You can easily tell because the classics had a straight wing while the 800's wing curves upward.
@Iowa_Aviation
@Iowa_Aviation 12 жыл бұрын
Yeah it just reduces drag like burlybearcan1 said, saves small increments of fuel each leg of a flight. Most planes didn't have them back then, but they design winglets for older planes like this one, so if the operator wants to purchase winglets for the planes, they can just add them on. An example would be Hawaiian Airlines. They fly a lot of 767's in their fleet and most of them didn't have winglets, but Hawaiian sent a large number of them in to have winglets installed on them.
