Hey Bob, wow! I have a long history of going from very charismatic 20 years ago, to finding myself in a very reformed environment now. The change over time has always been God revealing more and more of His Biblical truth to me... A few years ago God orchestrated things that I went from a 'bedroom musician', that would rather die than sing in front of anyone, to becoming the lead worship leader of a congregation... being well advanced in my 40's when the journey began. My frustration however grew as I remember (and relish) the times of worship in a more charismatic environment to the traditional way of worship I now find the more reformed my theology became... God not just saved me from eternal damnation BUT SO MUCH BETTER, I get to spend eternity in HIS PRESENCE!! I sometimes feel during worship that I'm the only one truly excited (emotional) about this, and not just regurgitating truth through singing hymns that has become tradition more than the life they actually contain... So, long story short... I am SO frustrated by so many things regarding worship in our very reformed church... their reason being mostly that 'charismatic is wrong so we should be doing the opposite'. I was ready to de-bunk your 'Idolatry on Sunday' series since I was expecting more of the same. But what a blessing, encouragement and direction giving podcast this was!!! God really gave me new understanding of where we are as a church and worship team. But most importantly, He has, through what you said showed me ways in which I can bring change IN LOVE, to the way we worship Him, that will give HIM the glory, and not our idols! Thanks to you and your team for the work you do! You say seeking recognition is also an idol, and I agree (and can relate), but just through this podcast you have added a significant piece of what God has been leading me into the last few months. Be blessed. I'm really looking forward to meeting you hereafter!

So glad the podcast was an encouragement to you! You’re in a great place to help your church see how those who know the most about God should have the deepest and strongest affections for him! I encourage you to listen to the podcast we did on physical expression as well as the podcast on God encounters. Keep making much of Jesus!

However, doesn't the mercy and the grace of God He extends through Jesus Christ cover all this?

Yes it does, but that doesn’t mean we can’t work to facilitate a more God glorifying time of worship.
